Malaysia women suffer shock loss to provincial side in China
KUALA LUMPUR: The national women's hockey team suffered an embarrassing 1-0 defeat to Liaoning in their second friendly at Liaoning Province, China, on Thursday.
The result was a major blow for world No. 23 Malaysia, who were expected to beat the provincial side even with a second-string line-up.
Liaoning , who featured in the Malaysian Women's Hockey League (MWHL) last year, are using the friendly series to gear up for the China National Games later this year.
On Wednesday, Nasihin Nubli's side were held to a 1-1 draw in the opening match of the seven-game series.
The Speedy Tigresses are using the matches as part of their build-up to the Nations Cup 2 in Poland from June 16 to 22.
Malaysia have been drawn in Group A alongside world No. 21 South Africa, Uruguay (No. 24), and hosts Poland (No. 27).
