Civil defence drill at KRS in Mandya on May 11

A civil defence drill will be conducted at the Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir-Brindavan Gardens in Mandya district on May 11 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to sensitise the public, tourists, and officials on how to respond effectively during emergencies.
Deputy Commissioner Kumar said this is only a mock operation, and there is no need for the public or tourists to panic.
Dr. Kumar was speaking while presiding over a preparatory meeting held at the Cauvery Hall of the zilla panchayat in Mandya on Friday, in connection with the drill being conducted following the directions from the Ministry of Home Affairs in the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan owing to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Brindavan Gardens is an important tourist destination, and a lot of tourists visit the site. The drill will be organised to raise awareness and instil confidence among the public so they do not panic or get scared during incidents like fire accidents or other emergencies.
Dr. Kumar urged that the public should cooperate with the district administration and not be alarmed during the mock operation. The drill will simulate a fire accident at the KRS dam to raise awareness. Operations will include evacuation of civilians to safe locations, shifting the injured to hospitals, and blackout procedures.
For the drill, various teams have been formed and responsibilities assigned to officials. These include, warning team, control room, evacuation team, fire department, National Cadet Corps team, Home Guards, the Police Department, the first aid and medical team, and the transport and communication teams.
Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Baladandi said awareness should be spread among tourists visiting the KRS and nearby villagers regarding the drill. He instructed the use of loudspeakers to ensure the message reaches tourists. Drill Nodal Officer K.S. Shivashankar, Additional Superintendent of Police Timmayya, fire officer Raghavendra, and other officials were present at the meeting.
