Malta International Arts Festival brings 10 days of music, dance & culture
The Malta International Arts Festival (MIAF), organized by Festivals Malta, will delight audiences from June 13 to 22 with a rich program of cultural performances and exhibitions across the islands.A DIVERSE LINE-UP ACROSS ICONIC VENUESAccording to the Times of Malta, this year's festival offers a 10-day celebration of music, dance, theatre, and visual arts. Festivals Malta announces major events from May to July
Festivals Malta has launched a range of festivals between the months of May and July this year. These include the Ritmu Roots Festival, the Malta International Arts Festival, the Malta Jazz Festival, and Dance Festival Malta. The Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, Dr Owen Bonnici, said: 'This coming summer, through Festivals Malta, our country will host four prestigious festivals that strengthen our cultural identity and provide a platform for both local and international artists. The programme announced today not only enriches the summer season with high-level events, but also attracts thousands of people to our country, with direct benefits on both an economic and social level. I congratulate Festivals Malta for their vision and ongoing commitment to keeping culture alive and accessible to all.' Ritmu Roots Festival will open the summer calendar of Festivals Malta with its third edition, taking place between May 21 and 24. The Artistic Director of Ritmu Roots Festival, Andrew Alamango, says that Ritmu is 'a platform for the public where communities gather through music and participate in traditional community activities.' This year, the festival will include projects such as Il-Kummittiva, Għana (traditional Maltese music), boċċi (bowls), and international artists such as Tarta Relena, Pliri Ntaxei, and Vincent Moon. The Malta International Arts Festival will return between June 13 and 22 with 10 days of multidisciplinary events including dance, music, theatre, and visual art exhibitions. Notable projects in this year's programme include a concert by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Underground Valletta, M.A.D. – Music and Dance, Music Painted by Caravaggio, and Boċċi the Musical in collaboration with Teatru Malta. 'The Malta International Arts Festival delivers a dynamic and contemporary programme staged in remarkable heritage sites, making Malta's rich cultural legacy an essential element of each event and ensuring a truly distinctive festival experience,' concluded Artistic Director Ruben Zahra. Dance Festival Malta, taking place between July 24 and 27, will connect local artists with various European artists by offering them a platform to discuss, share, and enhance their artistic work through masterclasses and specialised workshops. La Valette Marathon (March 23, 2025)Considered to be one of the most scenic marathon events in the Maltese Islands, the 2025 edition of the La Valette Marathon shall take place on the 23rd March, with several distance categories from a full 42.3KM marathon, a 21KM half marathon and a 5KM run, open for individual athletes, relay teams and corporate teams. There is also a Kids Run category and a Walkathon. The full marathon starts off from the seaside area of St Paul's Bay and the route passes along the eastern coastline, with the finish line located in the medieval town of Birgu, at the Castrum Maris, otherwise known as Fort St Angelo. The half Marathon kicks off from the cosmopolitan town of Sliema with the route meandering along the coastline, around the ring-road that surrounds the fortified city of Valletta, a UNESCO world Heritage site that was built by the Knights of St John in 1566, following the Great Siege of Malta. They opted to publish their music in Malta at the Brocktorff press by the new method of 'lithography' which allowed the printers to decorate their front covers. The exhibition at Gaulitana 2025 showcases a number of these rare examples of music covers printed locally by the Brocktorff family of artists.
