Court finds all accused guilty in Pothencode Sudheesh murder
T'puram:
Nedumangad SC/ST special court
judge A Shajahan on Tuesday found all 11 accused in the
Pothencode Sudheesh murder case
guilty of the charges against them.
The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on Wednesday, as the murder charge under section 302 of IPC was proven against all the accused. The court observed that the first three accused were found using lethal weapons, but the prosecution failed to prove the conspiracy part against the accused.
The accused in the case are Sudheesh alias Unni, Shyam, Rajesh alias Ottakam Rajesh, Nidheesh, Nandeesh, Ranjith, Sreenath, Sooraj, Arun, Jishnu Pradeep and Sachin. As part of gang rivalry, Sudheesh, belonging to the scheduled tribe category, was murdered for attacking a friend of the first accused.
Mangalapuram-native Sudheesh was hiding in a relative's house at Pothencode fearing an attack. The accused trespassed into the house on Dec 11, 2021, and attacked him in front of his wife and child. Sudheesh bled to death as the accused chopped off his leg. They carried the leg on a bike and later, left it on the road, and its CCTV visuals turned out to be crucial in the case.

The crime was planned and executed by third accused Ottakam Rajesh, an accused in two other murder cases. After the murder, Rajesh escaped to Tamil Nadu. Police arrested all accused soon after the crime.
The then Nedumangad DSP MK Sulfikar probed the case and submitted the chargesheet in 88 days. The probe team managed to prevent the accused from obtaining bail. All accused faced trial while in jail. There were 82 witnesses in the case, but four of them turned hostile later. On behalf of prosecution, special public prosecutor Geena Kumari appeared in court.
