Police inspector suspended for negligence in probe into desecration of idgah in Belagavi district
The government of Karnataka has issued an order for suspension, pending further inquiry, of Manjunath Hiremath, Circle Police Inspector of Belagavi Rural Police Station, on the charges of negligence and dereliction of duty. This comes in the wake of the charge of failing to conduct a proper inquiry into the alleged desecration of an idgah (open place of worship) in Santi Bastawad village in Belagavi district.
He also faces the charge of delaying action into the alleged desecration of holy books stolen from a mosque in the village recently.
The orders were issued after an initial inquiry revealed negligence and dereliction of duty, Belagavi Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang told reporters.
There was a demand from the Muslim community seeking action against the police officer.
