Manjung council: Pantai Teluk Senangin open to all, no fee for relaxation

Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) has denied appointing any individual or association to collect fees at Pantai Teluk Senangin in Lumut, Perak. In a media statement, MPM said 'Pantai Teluk Senangin is a public beach that is open to all for recreation, relaxation and picnics. 'MPM does not charge visitors for leisure activities. 'MPM has not appointed, authorised or issued permits to individuals, associations or organisations to collect fees from beachgoers.' This followed a viral social media post of a family being harassed by an individual who was demanding payment for table and chair rentals at the beach, located 32km from Sitiawan, Manjung. MPM said it posted a notice on its Facebook page on Aug 15 last year, stating that no charges were imposed for beach activities. Bernama reported that MPM said it had collaborated with the Manjung District Police Headquarters to conduct enforcement at the beach against those renting out ring floats. 'Action was taken against operators renting out chairs, tables, tents and floats without a valid licence or permission from the MPM president,' MPM said. Six seizures were made, involving equipment, including tents set up along Pantai Teluk Senangin. 'All seized items were taken to MPM's temporary storage depot for further action according to applicable laws and procedures. 'The seized items included 220 chairs, 19 wooden tables, one steel table, one umbrella, 25 floats and three tents,' the statement said. MPM said so far, 10 permits had been issued to operators. However, only three of these operators were active.

Manjung Municipal Council denies beach fee claims at Pantai Teluk Senangin

Photo taken from Facebook IPOH: The Manjung Municipal Council refutes claims that it is collecting fees from visitors at Pantai Teluk Senangin as it goes against the council's policy on the management of public beaches. The statement was made in response to allegations that individuals have been charging the public to access the beach. 'The council takes this matter seriously as it concerns the public's right to access recreational areas freely, without additional charges, " it added. According to the council, it had issued a statement on Aug 15 2024, through its official social media channels, stating that no fees were charged for picnic-related activities at Pantai Teluk Senangin. The same notice was also displayed on-site. "Despite this, irresponsible individuals have continued to take advantage of visitors, tarnishing the image of Manjung's local tourism sector. These actions are unlawful," it said. In collaboration with the Manjung District Police Headquarters, the council said it recently conducted an enforcement operation at Pantai Teluk Senangin following complaints of unauthorised float rentals. To date, 10 permits have been issued to operators who comply with set conditions, but only three remain active. The operation was conducted under Section 46(1)(d) of the Street, Drainage, and Building Act 1974 (Act 133), which prohibits obstruction in public spaces. "Licensed operators must adhere to strict conditions, including not placing equipment in advance of rentals and not charging for other items or using public spaces for unapproved activities. "The council is calling on the public to lodge a report if they encounter any suspicious activity or individuals attempting to collect payments at Pantai Teluk Senangin or any other beaches within the council's jurisdiction," it said.

Manjung council slaps RM7,000 in fines on food outlets

LUMUT: A total of 28 compounds, amounting to RM7,000, were issued by the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) to eight food premises recently for various offences, including poor hygiene standards. MPM president Muhammad Faizal Shah Safian Suri said the enforcement was carried out by the council's Food Premises and Hawkers Unit under the Licensing and Enforcement Department. Inspections were conducted on 17 premises within MPM's administrative area, Kosmo! reported. "Among the offences detected were the unauthorised placement of tables without approval from the local authority and failure to renew business operating licences," he said today. One premise was issued a 24-hour closure notice after it was found to be operating in unsatisfactory hygienic conditions, Faizal said. Faizal also said MPM will continue to carry out scheduled inspections to ensure full compliance with public health and food safety regulations. "MPM reminds all food premise operators and traders to comply with all the conditions and rules set by the authorities," he said. Faizal said firm action will be taken against any party that fails to comply, to safeguard hygiene, safety and consumer wellbeing.
