Blue Jays Receive Alek Manoah News After Cardinals Game

Blue Jays Receive Alek Manoah News After Cardinals Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Blue Jays have defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in each of their first two games of their three-game series and are aiming to complete the series sweep on Wednesday. Advertisement Toronto recently jumped past the Tampa Bay Rays for the second-place spot in the AL East standings. Additionally, they are just four games behind the New York Yankees for the division lead. Despite the Blue Jays' overall success this season, they have dealt with numerous injuries and absences. This includes starting pitcher Alek Manoah, who has not taken the mound since May 29, 2024, after undergoing Tommy John surgery. After the Blue Jays' win over the Cardinals on Tuesday, the team received news regarding the 27-year-old that provides a major update on his recovery. Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah (6).Dan Hamilton-Imagn Images Though the Blue Jays are among the top teams in the AL East, their pitching has been rocky all season. Getting Manoah back on the mound should provide them a big boost and provide a bit more consistency in the rotation. Fortunately for them, it seems that he is making good progress in his recovery. Advertisement According to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon, Manoah faced live hitters on Wednesday for the first time since undergoing surgery on his elbow. Additionally, Bannon said the session "went well." "Alek Manoah faced live hitters today in Florida (including Daulton Varsho) for the first time since Tommy John surgery. It 'went well,'" Bannon wrote on X. "Big step as he approaches a late-season return #BlueJays" The Florida native is just three years removed from his All-Star campaign in 2022, when he also finished third in the AL Cy Young Award voting. Manoah has struggled to stay healthy since, but he should provide a big boost to the Blue Jays once he makes his return. MLB players for West Virginians to watch this season

CLARKSBURG, (WBOY) — Opening Day for Major League Baseball is here! But if you don't have a team or if yours isn't playing, here are some players with West Virginia connections you can root for. Isaac Collins isn't a West Virginia native, but he is the son of someone older WVU football fans may recognize—former defensive back Mike Collins. Isaac Collins attended Creighton University and was drafted 279th overall by the Colorado Rockies in the 2019 MLB Draft. Collins spent a few years in the minors with different programs before being called up to play for Milwaukee in 2024, where he recorded his first major league hit. Rockies Center Fielder Brenton Doyle also isn't a West Virginia native, but he grew up pretty close before taking his talents to Shepherd University. He was drafted 129th overall in 2019 by Colorado and made his major league debut with the club in 2023. 5 Things to know about new WVU Men's Basketball Coach Ross Hodge Alek Manoah has had a roller coaster of a career in the Blue Jays system. The former WVU Mountaineer was called up to the majors just two years after being drafted 11th overall in 2019 and had two high-performing seasons with a 3.22 ERA and 127 strikeouts across 20 games in 2021, as well as a 2.23 ERA and 180 strikeouts across 31 games in 2022. The 2023 season is a different story entirely. Manoah only played 19 games with the Blue Jays and was demoted to the Florida Complex League after 13 of them before being called back up around a month later. During those 19 games, he posted an ERA of 5.87 and recorded 79 strikeouts. Manoah also played in three games during the 2024 season, but his time was cut short after he underwent season-ending surgery to repair his UCL. Manoah currently sits on the Blue Jays' Injured 60-Day list. Did we miss a player with West Virginia connections starting in the majors this season?
