Roads in Nashik city deteriorate after heavy rain spell despite recent repairs
Nashik: Roads in the city have taken a hit from continuous rainfall, with potholes reappearing and making driving hazardous, despite Nashik Municipal Corporation's recent efforts to fill over 8,000 potholes at Rs 6 crore using granular sub-base (GSB) material comprising construction debris, murum and macadams.

But the recent spells of heavy showers undid the repairs, leaving motorists at risk once again.
The residents said potholes have emerged on multiple city roads, including the inner ring road, Tarwala Nagar junction, Amrutdham, Rasbihari junction, Dindori Road, Peth Road, Jail Road, Nashik Road, Satpur and Ambad MIDC. Even the flyover stretch towards Bytco point has deteriorated after the monsoon, adding to the woes of commuters, they said.
Give the pitiable condition of several reads, the residents suggested that NMC should use cold-mix material or alternative methods to repair the roads during the monsoon, instead of using murum and macadams. Resident Manoj Chaugule questioned NMC's approach to road repairs, saying, "If NMC can't repair roads permanently using tar during the monsoon, it should opt for cold mix or other technology. Why does NMC insist on murum and macadam on tar roads for temporary filling potholes as they are not of use and nothing but a waste of tax money?"
The condition of Nashik's roads worsened after being dug up by MNGL and other agencies for gas pipeline and other projects.
Despite NMC's plan to repair them by April or May, the work wasn't completed, leaving the roads in a poor state.
An NMC official explained the delay in road repairs, saying, "We issued an ultimatum to MNGL and other agencies to complete their works by May 15. We planned to repair the roads with tar thereafter, but the rainfall started on May 6 and continued, forcing us to temporarily fill potholes with granular sub-base materials instead."

NMC plans to undertake major road repairs after the monsoon. "Stretches on some roads are also to be re-laid... All the road works are to be undertaken after the rains are over," said another official, adding that tenders worth over Rs 90 crore have already been finalized and work orders issued to contractors.
