Manoj Modi, despite being one of the most important people at Reliance Industries, prefers to stay away from the spotlight. He is known as the 'right hand' of Asia's richest man Mukesh Ambani and has quietly grown into one of the strongest figures within the company. His journey with Reliance began in the early 1980s, back when Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance, was at the helm.
Today, Reliance is India's most valuable company, with a market value of Rs. 19.52 lakh crore (as of June 5). Over time, Manoj Modi became one of the most trusted individuals in the Ambani household. Belonging to a Gujarati business family, Manoj Modi holds key roles at Reliance Retail and Reliance Jio as a Director. One of his most significant contributions came in 2020, when he helped negotiate a game-changing deal with Facebook. The agreement brought in USD 5.7 billion (which is around Rs. 48,908 crore today) into Jio Platforms. This wasn't just a one-off win because it opened the door for more global investments, helping the company raise over USD 13 billion from top international investors.
His bond with Mukesh Ambani goes way back as the two studied chemical engineering together at the University of Mumbai. Their friendship and trust have lasted decades. In fact, it is said that as a token of appreciation, Mukesh Ambani gifted Manoj Modi a stunning 22-floor building on Nepean Sea Road which is one of Mumbai's poshest areas. The luxurious tower, valued at Rs. 1,500 crore, features spacious 8,000 sq. ft. floors and covers a total of 1.7 lakh sq. ft.
Manoj is a very private person and does not use social media like Instagram, Twitter, or LinkedIn. He has a wife and two daughters, but not much information is available about his family.
