Egypt, Uzbekistan seek to enhance agricultural cooperation to achieve food security

This came during a meeting he had with Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Egypt Mansurbek Kilichev, where both sides discussed ways to strengthen collaboration in the agricultural sector. Farouk noted the potential for joint cooperation to include agricultural scientific research and its practical applications, emphasizing Egypt's extensive experience and alignment with modern agricultural technologies. He also referred to the ongoing preparations over the past three years to sign memoranda of understanding in the fields of agriculture and phytosanitary regulations. The Uzbek ambassador expressed his country's strong interest in enhancing joint cooperation, particularly in agricultural domains, given the high priority both countries' leaderships place on economic and agricultural ties. He expressed Uzbekistan's interest in benefiting from Egypt's expertise in cotton cultivation technologies, as well as collaborative research in the production of high-yield seed varieties, especially for crops like potatoes. Also, he highlighted that Uzbek companies are exploring the possibility of importing Egyptian potato varieties to test their adaptability to Uzbekistan's environmental conditions. The meeting tackled more areas of potential cooperation, including the cultivation and processing of sugar beet, the production of fertilizers such as urea, and learning from Egypt's successful experiences in desert land reclamation, modern irrigation systems, and the use of groundwater in agriculture. The minister welcomed the visit of a delegation of Uzbek experts and specialists to Egypt, enabling them to observe successful agricultural practices and transfer these experiences to Uzbekistan in support of strengthening bilateral cooperation.
