Manushi Chhillar returns to Miss World as judge, reflects on journey

Manushi Chhillar, the celebrated Miss World 2017, opened up about her incredible journey from being crowned the titleholder to now serving as a judge on the iconic Miss World stage. Reflecting on her experiences, Manushi shared insights into how the pageant transformed her life and the meaningful role she now plays in shaping and inspiring the next generation of contestants. Her transition from winner to mentor marks a full-circle moment, highlighting her continued commitment to the values and purpose behind the Miss World platform. Reflecting on her journey, Chhillar said, 'Beauty with a purpose' is the soul of Miss World. And I remember, during my year I was a 20-year-old who had this vision. I had a project and I took it to the Miss World competition as a contestant. And I still remember Gem's words, 'Isn't it better to light one candle in the dark, than not to see at all?' So, all I have to say is that this, is the mission of Miss World. And as we see all these wonderful women on stage, they're not here just to be admired. They're here to ignite change.' The 'Samrat Prithviraj' actress took to Instagram to share glimpses of her experience while judging the show. For the caption, she wrote, 'From once being crowned to now judging the competition, honoured to return to the Miss World stage. It's tough being on either side but felt so nervous and excited for the contestants! Reminded me of my days An unforgettable night of beauty, purpose, and power. @missworld #MissWorld2025 #FullCircleMoment #BeautyWithAPurpose.' Manushi won the Miss World title in 2017. She represented Haryana in the Femina Miss India 2017 contest, where she earned the Femina Miss India World crown. Subsequently, she became the sixth Indian to claim the Miss World crown after a 17-year gap. Manushi made her acting debut portraying Sanyogita in the historical drama 'Samrat Prithviraj.' Since then, she has appeared in the comedy-drama 'The Great Indian Family' and the action drama 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.' Meanwhile, Manushi shared a glimpse of herself working out hard and building muscles. Manushi took to Instagram to share two striking pictures. In the first, she took a mirror selfie while seated on her yoga mat, with dumbbells and resistance bands placed beside her. The second photo highlighted her impressive core strength, capturing her mid-plank with perfect form. 'Pretty little baby likes to build muscle... How long can you plank?' she wrote as the caption. On the professional front, Manushi is gearing up for an exciting year with two big films coming soon. First is 'Maalik,' a tough gangster drama where she stars opposite Rajkummar Rao. The movie shows Manushi in a completely new avatar. Directed by Pulkit and produced by Kumar Taurani and Jay Shewakramani, 'Maalik' is scheduled to release on June 20, 2025. Vetri Maaran moves High Court after censor refusal for Andrea's 'Manushi'

Acclaimed filmmaker Vetrimaaran has moved the Madras High Court , challenging the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for denying a censor certificate to the film 'Manushi,' which stars actress Andrea Jeremiah . The film has been produced by Vetri Maaran and directed by Gopi Nainar , has music composed by legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja. 'Manushi' deals with the sensitive theme of a woman being subjected to custodial harassment after being falsely suspected of terrorism. Its trailer was released in April 2024 and created considerable buzz for its bold subject. Censor board cites political concerns for rejection In September 2024, the CBFC refused to certify the film, claiming that it portrays the central government in a negative light and contains scenes that might confuse or misrepresent communist ideology. These objections led to a stall in the film's release, triggering discussions around artistic freedom and political censorship in cinema. The board's refusal reportedly did not involve a fair hearing or detailed explanation, according to the filmmaker. Petition urges fair hearing and expert review Vetri Maaran has now filed a petition in the Madras High Court, urging the judiciary to direct the CBFC to reconsider the film through an expert committee. In his plea, he argued that he was not given a fair opportunity to explain his perspective before the certificate was denied. He also pointed out that the CBFC failed to communicate the individual opinions of its members, thereby violating procedural norms. Filmmaker open to edits, seeks precedent-setting judgment The petition also highlights Vetri Maaran's willingness to make necessary edits if any scene is found to exceed the permissible limits of freedom of expression. He requested the formation of a new expert panel to reassess the film and pass a fresh judgment. The case is expected to be heard soon by Justice Anand Venkatesh, and the outcome could set a significant precedent for creative freedom in Tamil cinema. Vetri Maaran moves Madras High Court against denial of censor certificate for Manushi

Popular film director and producer C. Vetri Maaran has approached the Madras High Court challenging the denial of a censor certificate for Andrea Jeremiah-starrer Manushi, produced by him and directed by Gopi Nainar. Justice N. Anand Venkatesh is slated to hear his writ petition on Monday (June 2, 2025). According to the petitioner, he had produced the movie, which deals with the custodial interrogation of a woman, under his production house, Grassroot Film Company. He said the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), in September 2024, refused to issue a censor certificate for the movie on the ground that its contents portrayed the State in bad light and that the movie had confused leftist communism with mainstream communism. Stating that he was neither given an opportunity to be heard before the denial of the censor certificate nor informed of the individual views of the censor committee members, the petitioner said he had submitted a representation to the CBFC on March 29, 2025, requesting the constitution of an expert committee comprising human rights activists to re-examine the movie. The petitioner sought a direction to the CBFC to consider his representation and issue a speaking order after the re-examination of the movie by the expert committee. He also said he was willing to edit the movie if any of its scenes did not fall within the parameters of freedom of speech and expression. The movie's trailer released by the production house, and shared by actor Vijay Sethupathi on his social media accounts, in April 2024 had received critical acclaim after it showed moving scenes related to the custodial torture of a woman suspected to be a terrorist. Besides Ms. Andrea, Nasser, Tamizh, Hakkim Shah, and Balaji Sakthivel too had acted in the movie. Acclaimed musician Ilaiyaraaja composed the music for the film helmed by Mr. Nainar, known for Nayanthara-starrer Aramm.
