Tiny puppy was lone survivor of car crash. Now, the ‘fighter' will need a home

A puppy was the lone survivor of a car crash — and now, the 'little fighter' will need a home. 'Fragile and so tiny, he needed bottle feedings every few hours to have a chance,' a North Carolina animal shelter wrote April 15 on Facebook. 'We didn't know if he'd make it the first few days.' Maple Biscuit, who was found in bad shape, eventually pulled though. Now, the 2-month-old pup is 'full of life' as he waits for a fresh start. 'He's goofy, playful, and a total joy to be around,' Brooke Fornea, spokesperson for Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville, told McClatchy News via email. 'He's been in loving foster homes with other dogs, where he's learned how to play, bounce around, and just be a puppy. His resilience and sweet spirit have been inspiring to everyone who's met him.' The 'tiny miracle' landed at the rescue after he was in a serious crash that killed his mom and littermates. The shelter said it didn't have a lot of details about the tragedy but knew the orphaned pup needed help. 'When he arrived, he was tiny — just over a pound — cold, weak, and in critical need of care,' Fornea wrote. 'We immediately began helping him regulate his body temperature and got him started on a bottle-feeding schedule. It was touch and go in those early days, but he's a little fighter.' Maple Biscuit, believed to be a Labrador retriever mix, is expected to be available for adoption Saturday, April 19. Details about the animal organization's adoption process can be found at
