Why did the Boston Celtics make the picks that they did in the 2025 NBA draft? Fans of the team were a bit perplexed by the Celtics front office electing to take Spanish wing Hugo Gonzalez at No. 28 overall in the first round of the draft. Many of the more vocal Boston fans were even more perplexed by the team trading back from No. 32 overall to take a pair of prospects near the end of the second round, while picking up another two future second round picks.
So why did Boston choose to take the picks that they did, and to move back in the second round? There is no better option to answer such question than an employee of the team itself, which is exactly what the Celtics did in a recent clip they put together for their official YouTube channel.
Team reporter Marc D'Amico dove into why Boston took Hugo Gonzalez out of Real Madrid at No. 28, Amari Williams out of Kentucky at No. 46, and Max Shulga out of VCU at No. 57 in the 2025 NBA draft. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what he had to say.
