Renovations on First National Bank building close portion of Court Street
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A portion of the sidewalk along Court Street in downtown Binghamton is closed as historic renovation is underway to shore up the facade of the First National Bank building.
The building, which has housed a number of businesses and restaurants over the years and is now occupied by Logowise, is part of the MetroCenter.
It's owned by Marchuska Brothers which is repairing the ornate stone carvings and lettering at the top of the facade.
The nearly 100-year-old building has been the victim of spalling, a form of deterioration where small chips and flakes of stone peel away. No significant pieces of the facade have fallen.
The fence was erected to make space for a lift that Marchuska Brothers employees will use to do the work.
The project began last year and is expected to be completed this year.
The First National Bank building is a prominent surface for LUMA Festival projections each year.
