Norwich activate clause to extend Marcondes contract
Norwich City have exercised a one-year option to extend Emiliano Marcondes' contract at Carrow Road. Marcondes joined on a free transfer in October on an initial deal until the end of the season after leaving Bournemouth. The 30-year-old Dane has 11 goal involvements in 30 Championship games, but could not inspire Norwich into the play-offs with manager Johannes Hoff Thorup sacked last week. Sporting director Ben Knapper said: "Emi has made a great impact since arriving here back in the autumn. "He's contributed a lot and has become a key figure, both on and off the pitch. "We're pleased to secure him for another season and to continue working with him going forwards." Before spending three years at Vitality Stadium, attacking midfielder Marcondes joined Brentford from Nordsjaelland in 2018, scoring in their 2021 play-off victory over Swansea, securing promotion to the Premier League. He moved to the Cherries that summer, having won the Danish league title on loan at Midtjylland in 2019. While there he played 18 games and had brief stints back at Nordsjaelland and in Scotland with Hibernian. Although never capped at senior level by Denmark, he played through the youth ranks from under-17s to under-21s level.
