Yoga Instructor's Cause of Death Revealed 2 Months After He Was Found Dead in a Rock Quarry

The remains of Marcus Freiberger, 45, who was last heard from on Feb. 21, were discovered at a rock quarry on the outskirts of Phoenix about a month later, police said 'We are obviously heartbroken," friend Amber Cranford previously told PEOPLE following the news of Freiberger's death at the time. "It's going to take a while to process this" The Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner's website listed Freiberger's manner of death as "undetermined" Authorities determined the cause of death of a yoga teacher whose body was found just over two months ago at a rock quarry on the outskirts of Phoenix. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office listed on its website that 45-year-old Marcus Freiberger's manner of death is "undetermined." In the medical examiner's annual report from 2023, 'undetermined' is when a clear manner of death cannot be found, 'typically due to a lack of available information or where competing manners [of death] are equally likely.' Freiberger was last heard from on Feb. 21 before he was scheduled to meet a blind date, The Arizona Central reported. At the time, -olice said that officers began investigating his disappearance on March 14, 2025, after receiving a missing person report. "The investigation was led by the Missing Persons Detail, who completed thorough investigative checks," the Phoenix Police Department said in a March 25 press release. "No additional leads or evidence were discovered to determine if Freiberger left town or fell victim to any particular crime. Investigators continued to work with family and friends but were unable to determine Freiberger's whereabouts." Police said human remains were discovered at the rock quarry near 15th Avenue and Broadway Road on March 19, adding that the medical examiner's office later identified them as belonging to Freiberger. Freiberger's sister, Tina Hall, also confirmed the death of her brother in a March 25 Facebook post. "It is with a heavy heart that I share the tragic news that Marcus is no longer with us," Hall wrote. "Losing him feels like losing a part of ourselves and I know this will be just as difficult for you. We thank all of you for the love and support you have given Marcus and our family." Friends believed something was amiss when they discovered that Freiberger's beloved dog was left alone in the apartment. 'He just did everything with his dog,' Freiberger's childhood friend Amber Cranford told PEOPLE. 'He was constantly at the dog park or taking him hiking, and any time he left, he would call somebody to watch the dog. He was just so into his dog, and the dog ended up being by itself for at least six to eight days.' Freiberger's last correspondence with his father and a friend 'seemed normal, nothing out of the ordinary,' said Cranford. 'And then that same night, his phone was disconnected. When you called it, it went to Verizon, basically. And then we called his phone after that, and it's dead now." Freiberger, who had relocated to Phoenix from Prescott, Ariz., three years ago, had started a new career as a yoga instructor. 'He had just graduated a couple months ago, and he was working at a place and had a huge following, and he was just very, very happy about that,' Cranford said. 'He was so excited because he had all these ideas for classes and what he was going to do. It was the spiritual thing, and then also just a stress-free job, doing what he liked. He felt that he had finally found what he was supposed to be doing.' Nicole Keir, a friend of Freiberger who had worked with him at a hotel in Austin, remembered the former roofer as 'very lively and friendly.' 'He was really enigmatic, big smile,' she told PEOPLE. 'We used to all go dancing after work. And there was always fun, like work outings and he would participate. We just got along very well and just always were supportive of each other.' Upon hearing the news of Freiberger's death, Cranford said: 'It is devastating, and we are in shock. We are obviously heartbroken. It's going to take a while to process this. There will be a huge void left for all of us. It is a huge loss for every single person who knew him, especially his parents and sister.' 'Our parents were best friends,' Cranford added. 'Our parents were in the military. They worked together, and we lived across the street from each other, so we've known each other since then.' Arizona yoga instructor missing after blind date

(NewsNation) — A search is underway for a Phoenix yoga instructor who went missing after a blind date more than a month ago. Marcus Freiberger, 45, was last seen in a local parking garage Feb. 22. He was supposed to meet a blind date the day before, but whether he met with that person is unknown. Freiberger was teaching classes at Melrose Yoga for a few months and was becoming a popular instructor at the studio. 'He's a super young man, and he's the most personable individual, and when you speak to his friends, they'll tell you he's just a magnet,' his father, Dutch Freiberger, told a local news outlet. Where does your neighborhood rank among the 2025 'Best Places to Live'? His father said Marcus had a history of substance abuse and that he was between apartments before he went missing. Freiberger's dog, Thomas, was left alone for several days. His father said it was something he would never do. Forrest Kruger, the owner of Melrose Yoga, told the outlet Freiberger was an excellent instructor and had a lot of friends. 'Where is he? What happened to him? He was making progress and doing all these great things and getting ahead in life, which is making him happy,' Kruger said. Freiberger was last seen driving a 2021 white GMC Sierra pickup truck with an Arizona license plate reading 3MA66L. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Phoenix Police Department. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Missing Phoenix Melrose Yoga instructor was planning on going on blind date

A Phoenix man has been missing for a month after reportedly going on a date with someone he had not yet met. Marcus Freiberger was last heard from by his father on February 21, when the 45-year-old yoga instructor planned to meet a blind date at a parking garage near 2nd Avenue and Van Buren Street, according to a flyer from the AWARE Foundation. The flyer, from the Virginia-based nonprofit, states that it is unclear whether Freiberger, a three-year instructor at Melrose Yoga and a Prescott transplant, ever met his date. Freiberger left his dog behind, which the flyer states is "something he would never do." Phoenix police told The Arizona Republic Saturday that Freiberger was reported missing on March 14. Although he has not been located, police said that detectives do not have reason to think Freiberger is in imminent danger. He is 6 feet tall, weighs 225 pounds, has dark brown hair and brown eyes, and drives a white 2021 GMC Sierra pickup with Arizona license plate 3MA66L. The flyer directs tips to Phoenix police at 602-534-2121. This article originally appeared on Arizona Republic: Phoenix yoga instructor missing over a month had planned blind date

Popular Phoenix yoga instructor goes missing after scheduled blind date

The Brief Marcus Freiberger, 45, went missing after he was reportedly scheduled to go on a blind date in downtown Phoenix on Feb. 21. For the months leading up to his disappearance, he was a popular yoga instructor at Melrose Yoga. His father and the owner of the yoga studio are speaking out to raise awareness, hoping to find him safe. PHOENIX - Friends and family are desperate to find Marcus Freiberger, a popular yoga instructor in Phoenix's Melrose District. The 45-year-old hasn't been seen in nearly a month. The backstory Marcus has been teaching yoga at Melrose Yoga for the past few months. He was getting pretty popular, racking up clients and friends. Now, they have no idea where he is, and, of course, they're worried sick. "He's a super young man, and he's the most personable individual and when you speak to his friends, they'll tell you he's just a magnet," said his father, Dutch Freiberger, on March 19. His father admits his son has had issues. From money to drugs. Marcus was reportedly in-between apartments in mid-February when he went missing. His father says Marcus would never abandon his beloved dog Thomas, who was left alone for several days. "I'll tell you that he had a history of drugs, and he's been in and out of rehab a few times. He's never disappeared this long," Dutch said. According to Dutch, the last place his son was supposed to be was in a parking garage near 2nd Avenue and Van Buren Street. He drove there for a blind date on Feb. 21. Whether he actually met someone or not remains a mystery, but no one has seen or heard from Marcus since. What they're saying Marcus became a go-to yoga teacher at Melrose Yoga with the skills and smile to match. Owner, Forrest Kruger, gave him a chance a few months back, and was very impressed. "Kind of guy all of his friends were coming in here for his classes. I met lots of them. Nothing but positive things to say. He was a great guy, is a great yoga teacher, too. I took his class myself," Kruger said. That's another reason none of this makes sense. He was a young man back on the right track. His whole future was ahead of him, and then suddenly he's gone. "Where is he? What happened to him? He was making progress and doing all these great things and getting ahead in life, which is making him happy," Kruger said. Marcus' father is still waiting for help to unlock his cell phone to see if there may be clues inside. He also hopes someone spots his truck, a white 2021 GMC Sierra pickup truck with an Arizona plate reading 3MA66L. If you know anything, call Phoenix Police at 602-534-2121.
