Elmira man sentenced for manslaughter in June 2024 Grove Street killing
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – An Elmira man has been sentenced to decades in state prison for the June 2024 shooting on Grove Street that resulted in the death of 21-year-old Zachary VanHorn.
Marcus A. Jones-Snyder was sentenced on Friday, May 9, in Chemung County Court to 20 years in state prison plus two and a half years post-release supervision for the crime of manslaughter in the first degree (class B felony), as stated in a release from the Chemung County District Attorney's Office.

According to previous reports, Jones-Snyder's arrest stems from a shooting that occurred on Grove Street in Elmira on Thursday, June 20. At this time, it was reported that Jones-Snyder unlawfully had a loaded handgun, which he used to shoot VanHorn in the chest, resulting in his death.
Jones-Snyder was originally charged with murder in the second degree, a class A-I felony, but then took a plea deal, resulting in his manslaughter conviction.
