New ‘Our Spacious Skies' effort focuses on the Pikes Peak Region's future

(PIKES PEAK REGION, Colo.) — The Pikes Peak Community Foundation (PPCF) along with a Steering Committee kicked off 'Our Spacious Skies' – a multi-month effort to develop a future for the region. Our Spacious Skies is a nonpartisan, regional undertaking that involves people living in the Pikes Peak Region, including those in El Paso and Teller Counties. To lead the effort, a 31-person Steering Committee of community leaders from across the region was formed. 'The Pikes Peak region has so much going for it and as we grow, it's crucial that we have a clear, unified understanding of what residents value most and why, so that vision is front and center,' said PPCF CEO Margaret Dolan. 'The key is making sure we are all working toward the same goals, that those goals are rooted in the values, hopes, and dreams of the people who live here, and that we are harnessing the aligned power of philanthropy, business, and government to accomplish them.' The 31-person committee is co-chaired by former Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers, Senior Pastor of Solid Rock Christian Center Ben Anderson, and nonprofit leader and recently retired CEO of Pikes Peak United Way Cindy Aubrey. Members of the Committee also include other leaders from businesses, organizations, and military installations in El Paso County. 'At the heart of our success is making sure any roadmap for the future of the region is firmly rooted in the values and aspirations of everyday people,' said Our Spacious Skies Co-Chair Cindy Aubrey. 'The Steering Committee we've assembled makes a powerful statement in and of itself in that regard. We were very intentional about making sure it represented a broad cross-section of our region, each coming with unique perspectives and the ability to ensure we engage with many different parts of our community over the coming months.' The first phase of Our Spacious Skies involves a large-scale attitudinal research effort designed to engage with people who live in the Pikes Peak area understand their hopes and dreams and identify a set of shared values that can serve as a driving force for investment and action in the coming years. The second phase will activate the findings and energize stakeholders to identify clear ideas for their action and provide an actionable foundation for the next steps. The effort will operate out of the Pikes Peak Community Foundation. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
