EPA plan for power plant rule rollback riles enviros
Environmental advocates are assailing the Trump administration's plans to roll back Biden-era limits on power plant emissions of mercury and other toxic pollutants — even before EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin formally outlines the proposal.
'Reversing these protections will take lives, drive up costs and worsen the climate crisis,' Climate Action Campaign Director Margie Alt said in a statement late Tuesday after POLITICO's E&E News reported that Zeldin will announce that proposal, along with the planned repeal of power sector carbon dioxide standards, Wednesday afternoon at EPA headquarters.
Joining Zeldin for what is billed as a 'major policy announcement' will be Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) and five other members of Congress from Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, according to an EPA advisory. Those states all employ relatively large amounts of coal-fired electricity generation. The White House concluded reviews of both draft rules last Friday.

EPA press aides did not respond to requests for comment.
