Harris County woman charged after putting GPS devices in spouses vehicles
The Brief Maria Gonzalez has been charged and is wanted for unlawfully installing GPS devices in her spouse's vehicles. Precinct 4 says their investigation dates back to 2023. Chris Tritico, Senior Legal Analyst for FOX 26, shared what you can do legally when it comes to tracking individuals. HARRIS CO, TX - Harris County Precinct 4 Constables say they need your help. They are looking for Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez, who is wanted for installing GPS devices illegally on her spouse's vehicle. Precinct 4 constables' office say Gonzales has been charged with a Class A misdemeanor. They add that this all started back in August 2023. The backstory "You have to get a subpoena for the investigation for the GPS records and ownership of all that is what has led us today to be able to file charges against the suspect," said Capt. Jose Garza. Precinct 4. "So it is my understanding they are not together, as of now, but the relationship then and what started all of this is closed for the investigation." "So there were several places that she did show up, which led us to further believe she was the one tracking, because she would not have known where these locations were," said Garza. Local perspective We also spoke with FOX 26 Senior Legal Analyst Chris Tritico about the legal ramifications of putting a tracking device on a car or using tracking apps, software and air tags like many people do. "If you own that vehicle, or you're leasing a vehicle, and it's your lease, and you're letting your spouse or your loved one use it, you can place the tracking device in the vehicle because you own it," Tritico said. "Phones now have this ability for family apps if you do that if you buy a phone for your child, and you put that app on there to know where your child is, that's not going to be a violation of the law because that is your phone, and you get to do that with your child. Once that child turns 18, that child has every right to turn that off. If your parent has dementia, yes, it would technically be a violation of the law, but I don't know of any court that would hold someone responsible under those circumstances," Tritico added. Precinct 4 Constables say a warrant has been issued for Maria Gonzalez's arrest. If convicted, she could face a $4,000 fine and one year in jail. If anyone has information, Precinct 4 says call their office immediately. The Source FOX 26 Reporter Leslie DelasBour spoke with Harris County Constable Precinct 4 and FOX 26 Senior Legal Analyst about the case.

Miami surgery center owner took part in unlicensed liposuction, state says
The owner of a Miami cosmetic surgery center has been accused of not only allowing unlicensed doctors to cut open patients, but participating in at least one unlicensed surgery, then trying to reopen her center in an unlicensed location. That's all from the state's emergency order suspending the license of Maria Gonzalez's Mystic Cosmetic Center, which did business at 2020 SW First St. as New World Medical & Mystic Cosmetic Surgery. That's where arrest reports say Doral residents Manuel Lazzaro and Wilson Muñoz Suarez, neither of whom holds a Florida license, botched surgeries last fall. 'As a result of the cosmetic breast surgery by (Lazzaro), the victim suffered permanent disfigurement,' said the arrest report about what a Miami-Dade prosecutor in bond court described as the loss of a nipple. Lazzaro and Muñoz each has pleaded not guilty to unlicensed practice. READ MORE: Two unlicensed doctors accused of botching cosmetic surgeries in Miami The suspension order says Gonzalez was 'documented as a medical assistant' during the liposuction performed by Muñoz on Oct. 12. 'Mystic's owner and office manager appears to have direct knowledge of the unlicensed practiced due to her personal involvement in one of the unlicensed surgeries,' the suspension order says. 'The owner's knowledge and apparent indifference towards unlicensed individuals practicing medicine at her facility indicates a blatant disregard for the laws and rules which govern office surgery registrants.' Gonzalez's attorney, Little Havana's Luis Fernandez, did not respond to a request for comment. Nor did Gonzalez. Through the 2020 SW 1st LLC, Gonzalez also owns the building out of which Mystic operated. It's been under renovation for months. In January, the suspension order said, Mystic put up a banner telling patients it was moving temporarily to 2397 SW 22nd St aka Coral Way. 'Mystic did not register that location with the department,' the suspension order says and, therefore, the department didn't inspect the location. Office surgery registration licenses don't just transfer with the business' name. A temporary sign says the location is now the home of Mibeauty Suites.

Legislation that gives local police ICE deportation responsibilities advances
DES MOINES, Iowa — An Iowa House subcommittee advanced a bill on Thursday that would require local law enforcement to participate in immigration programs. The bill says that no later than the beginning of the next year, every law enforcement agency in the state will enter into written agreements with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to participate in immigration programs. That means local law enforcement will be enabled to perform as immigration officers within their jurisdictions after training. Melbourne man found guilty of sexual abuse, enticing a minor 'Let's call this what it is it is an anti-immigrant bill,' said Maria Gonzalez from Marshalltown. 'Unfunded mandates are stressful it would cause harm to the community relationship between our Latinos and our law enforcement,' said Patricia Ritchie from Carroll 'The xenophobia and hatred that these men keep pushing every session are anti-Iowan and frankly anti-American,' said Vanessa Marcano-Kelly from West Des Moines. The subcommittee was packed with those speaking in opposition with members of the Latino community holding signage and voicing their opinions, and concerns of discrimination. No one spoke in favor of the bill besides the two republicans on the committee that advanced it. Both argued that illegal and legal immigration needs to be emphasized, and this bill would help do that. Iowa House bill would ban abortion medications in the state 'There is a huge difference between legal and illegal immigration that so many groups seek to erase that difference this legislation is of critical importance to ensure that the rule of law is restored, and our communities are made safe,' said Rep. Steve Holt, (R) District 12 from Denison. 'Law enforcement currently struggle with resources as they go right now and we do have some concerns that additional loads on our resources without some funding to support that may create some additional challenges,' said Chief Chad McCluskey, from Waukee. He is also the Vice President of the Iowa Police Chiefs Association. The group is registered as undecided as the resources required for the work the bill would demand is something local police departments are not equipped for at the moment Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
