Marina is here to generate joy, during WorldPride and always

A few weeks ago, Marina Diamandis took to social media to make an all-caps plea to bring back things like whimsy, smiling in photos and dillydallying. 'MAKE THIS THE SUMMER OF CRINGE,' she wrote. 'MAKE THIS THE SUMMER OF GIVING A S---.' That mission statement reverberates throughout the forthcoming album 'Princess of Power' from the singer-songwriter, who performs mononymously as Marina. Across a trio of synth-powered pop anthems, Diamandis celebrates personal transformation, new love and female empowerment with her trademark wit and glam.

Marina Serves ‘C*ntissimo' On Latest Single

Marina Diamandis Marina Diamandis has been setting the stage for her sixth studio album Princess of Power in the lead-up to her Coachella performances over the next two weekends. She's released singles 'Butterfly' and 'Cupid's Girl" in recent months to drum up anticipation, and for her latest single 'C*ntissimo,' Marina taps into the feeling of a woman with the world—and more specifically, a desperate man—in her hands. 'Salma Hayek in the sun / Louise and Thelma on the run / Your ex is hitting you up / But you no longer give a f**k,' she sings on the track. 'Leaving that loser on read / Don't let him back in your bed / 'Cause your energy is precious / Not your fault he fell in love.' In the video for the song, she seemingly nods to her Electra Heart persona while acknowledging that that person from her 2012 album is all grown up. Opening up emotionally in this way marks another new territory for Marina after the release of her first poetry book last fall. 'We are meeting a Marina who is not guarding her heart so much anymore,' she told Rolling Stone of this new chapter. 'I think part of why this album has felt so freeing is that I think I've really dove into my fear of love. That's why for me, it's so powerful that this superheroine's biggest power is love.' 'It can sound trite, but the ability to love is so powerful and brave," she added. "It's a courageous thing, particularly if you've been hurt in the past. It can be really hard to reprogram yourself, and I've finally been able to do that.' For some fans, it might come as a surprise to see her showing her heart in this way as she's often sang from the perspective of having an upper hand over others. But that perception couldn't be further from the truth. 'Maybe to others, I've had a bold energy. Internally, I've always struggled to feel like I'm allowed to be my own person,' she confessed. 'The album is about teaching yourself—or re-teaching yourself—how to love.' Ultimately, she believes all women in pop music should be able to express themselves in new ways more than a decade into her career as she has. 'I want women to not be afraid to age. I think it's not talked about in pop. Pop pretends it's not happening. We are getting older. But I don't want to feel ashamed about it or feel like I have to cling on to youth," she stated plainly. Marina is taking the stage at Coachella this weekend on April 11 and next weekend on April 18. Princess of Power is set for release June 6.

Marina Is ‘Cupid's Girl' On New Single

Marina Diamandis Marina Diamandis has quite a busy 2025 ahead of her. After the release last fall of her poetry book Eat the World, the Welsh songstress returned to music last month with a new single 'Butterfly,' signaling that she was similarly coming out of her musical cocoon and preparing to fly with a new album following her 2021 LP Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land. She's set a number of festival performances for this spring and summer, kicking it all off at Coachella next month, and is now taking her shot with another new single, 'Cupid's Girl.' 'I'm gonna fall in love tonight / I've got my bow and arrow / My heart-shaped eyes are burning bright / I've got you in my sight / You're looking at my wings and by the look in your eyes / You've got an appetite / My love is ready to take flight / Slow dance into the light,' she sings on the upbeat track. 'Cupid / You're so stupid / Trying to resist / My kiss / But you know I never miss / Baby, you just need to relax / Don't panic when it hits / Shoot my arrow right into your back.' Marina, in her everyday life as in the song, has recently been able to look to the future with hope for what's to come. 'I think the sense of what's right and wrong particularly resonates because it's taken me a long time to challenge that and be like, 'The world is not an ideal place,' and to try and relax that part in myself. Because I so want it to be, and actually it kind of blocks you from seeing people and situations for the way that they actually are, which has taken me really up until this point in my life to be able to do that,' she admitted to Paper. Marina is set to take the stage at Coachella on April 11 and 18.

Marina Serves Transformative Looks in Her 'Butterfly' Music Video

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Marina Diamandis has evolved from her chrysalis to spread her wings toward another bright and brilliant pop record. Her latest single, 'BUTTERFLY,' introduces a new era and marks her first musical release since 2022. It also comes hot off the release of her literary debut, Eat The World: A Collection of Poems, which dropped last October. Known for her quick-witted lyrical prowess, the artist—who simply goes by the mononym MARINA these days—is back with another alt-pop gem that sees her inching toward greater heights. She's leaving anything that no longer serves her behind as she muses, 'To become a butterfly / Parts of me had to die / Spread my wings in the golden light / and I fly.' Along with the track came an Aerin Moreno-directed music video featuring several ultra-glamorous looks—including one with a bedazzled butterfly perched upon MARINA's signature dark hair. As it starts to take over our social feeds, the visual also premiered on MTV Live, MTVU, MTV Biggest Pop, and on Paramount's billboards in New York's Times Square. 'My next record is very playful and has a character-led concept, but not in the same way as Electra Heart,' MARINA told Plastik magazine in January. 'I found it weighty to have to commit to character for 2 years, and that's not where I'm at now. This next era is very fun. It has a special energy.' As new music is on the horizon, MARINA's also headed on a festival circuit this year with appearances at Coachella, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, and Osheaga. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be marveling at all of her stunning looks in the 'BUTTERFLY' music video and memorizing the song's lyrics 'til further notice: You Might Also Like Here's What NOT to Wear to a Wedding Meet the Laziest, Easiest Acne Routine You'll Ever Try
