Granger's Grille closes after nearly 30 years serving comfort food in Delray Beach
DELRAY BEACH — After nearly three decades of serving up burgers, brunches and memories in Delray Beach, Granger's Grille has closed its doors for good.
The family-owned diner on Southeast Fifth Avenue was known for its generous, from-scratch American comfort fare and a welcoming, everybody-knows-your-name atmosphere that made it a true neighborhood institution.
"Today marks the end of an unforgettable chapter," owner Marino Pagones wrote in a May 11 Facebook post. "Granger's Grille has officially closed its doors."
The quintessential hometown spot opened in 1995. For 21 years, it sat just north of Atlantic Avenue in downtown Delray Beach. In 2016, its owners were forced to move to a larger restaurant about a mile south after the rent at its original location more than tripled.
"This is not how we imagined things ending," Pagones' post read. "Unfortunately, due to the sale of our building we were left with no choice. As a family owned business this decision was not made by will, but by circumstance."
Granger's Grille offered customers a warm, no-frills dining experience rooted in comfort food and community. It was known for its hearty meals — think juicy half-pound burgers, saucy wings, loaded wedge salads and a signature Bahamian conch soup. Seafood lovers found favorites like homemade tuna salad sandwiches, grilled fish platters and a surprisingly popular salmon Reuben.

"To every guest who shared a meal, a moment, or a memory with us over the years thank you," Pagones said via Facebook. "From first dates to family dinners, brunches with friends to quiet weekday lunches, you made Granger's more than just a restaurant. You made it a home."
The post garnered more than 600 reactions, some people remembering visiting the locale since childhood, others opining on the growing loss of small businesses in Delray Beach.
"Yet another mom & pop business in Delray gone," one commenter wrote.
No reopening has been announced.
"Delray Beach, you showed us love, loyalty, and a true sense of community" Pagones wrote. "We are beyond grateful for your support, your smiles, and the countless memories created within these walls."
