Bayer Leverkusen consider Malick Thiaw and Mario Hermoso as new centre back additions Bayer Leverkusen are continuing their search for another centre back after the departure of Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich was recently announced. A centre back has already been brought into the club as yesterday the signing of Tim Oermann from Bochum was announced. Advertisement Another defender is needed at the club though as Mario Hermoso has now returned from his loan spell in addition to Tah leaving. Despite this, the signing of Hermoso on a permanent deal is being considered. The Spaniard joined Leverkusen for the second half of the 2024/25 season from AS Roma and made seven appearances. Another defender being considered is AC Milan centre back Malick Thiaw. Milan have failed to qualify for European football this season, meaning that some players may have to be sold in order for a rebuild to take place. The 23-year-old has previous experience in German football as he made 61 appearances for Schalke 04. Advertisement According to Kicker, Leverkusen are looking for a centre back with a strong right foot and a high level of leadership qualities, something which Tah provided for the club over several seasons. Leverkusen's Hermoso out for season after surgery
Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen will be without defender Mario Hermoso for the rest of the season after he underwent surgery on a chest ligament injury in Spain. Hermoso, 29, suffered the injury during last week's Champions League last 16 return leg defeat against Bayern Munich. He came to Leverkusen in January on loan from Italy's Roma until the end of the season, featured in four Bundesliga matches and both Champions League matches against Munich. Leverkusen said late Tuesday that by agreement with Roma Hermoso will complete his rehabilitation with them. Leverkusen are second in the Bundesliga, six points behind Bayern. They are also in the German Cup semi-finals.

Mario Hermoso out for the season with shoulder injury
Roma loanee Mario Hermoso has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. The Spaniard, who moved on loan from Roma to Bayer Leverkusen in January, has suffered an injury that will keep him out of action until the end of the season. Despite the break, however, Hermoso will not return to the Italian capital. The German club announced it in an official statement. 'Bayer 04 defender Mario Hermoso underwent successful surgery today, Tuesday, in Madrid. The player on loan from Roma had suffered a tendon injury in the area of the right pectoral muscle during the return leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 against Bayern Munich (0-2). Hermoso will be out for Bayer 04 until the end of the current season. His rehabilitation will be carried out in agreement with Roma at the 'Werkstatt' in Leverkusen, the club's rehabilitation and training center located in the BayArena.'
