Mang Tomas, Jufran, UFC sauces removed from US FDA's import alert list
NutriAsia Inc., which manufactures Mang Tomas All Purpose Sauce, Jufran Banana Sauce, and UFC Banana Sauce, said Monday it has secured the approval of the US Food and Drug Administration to remove from the import alert list its reformulated products.
NutriAsia said it received a letter from the US FDA dated May 16, 2025, indicating that it has successfully met the criteria to no longer be subjected to detention without physical examination (DPWE).
A copy of the letter seen by GMA News Online indicated that while data showed that the products have met the criteria for removal from DPWE, routine coverage will resume and that this may be reinstated should detentions occur for the same or related reasons.
'We are very happy with the approval of our petition. I am sure that our Kababayans and the American consumers who have felt the absence of their beloved NutriAsia products are very happy as well,' NutriAsia president and chief operations officer Angie Flaminiano said in an emailed statement.
To recall, the US FDA on October 25, 2024 published Import Alert 99-45, on the detention without physical examination of food products that are or contain an unsafe food additive, including variants of Mang Tomas All Purpose Sauce, Jufran banana and chill sauces, and Mother's Best mixes and sauces.
NutriAsia in November said its reformulated products were shipped as early as August, and were then already going through the routine US FDA inspection.
'We followed the process and provided the documentation required to properly evaluate the actions we have taken to comply with the standards,' NutriAsia New Business Development and International Business head Mario Mendoza said in the same statement.
'With the removal of our products from the red list, consumers who may have missed our products in the past months can now look forward to uninterrupted supplies moving forward,' he added.— AOL, GMA Integrated News
