Ten programs that won May in recruiting

The month of June is always one of the biggest in the recruiting calendar but many teams across the Power Four conferences loaded up in one way or another in May. Here is a look at 10 that won the month: MORE: USC flexing its muscle again after stealing TE Mark Bowman from UGA Advertisement CLASS OF 2026 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2027 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State TRANSFER PORTAL: Full coverage | Player ranking | Team ranking | Transfer search | Transfer Tracker RIVALS CAMP SERIES: Rivals Five-Star heading back to Indy | Rivals Five-Star roster | Schedule/info GEORGIA It was not a dream month for Georgia, actually frustrating in some ways, as the Bulldogs led for five-star Jackson Cantwell and four-star tight end Mark Bowman and they picked Miami and USC, respectively. But this is Georgia so there are inevitably going to be many big recruiting wins and five-star quarterback Jared Curtis leads the way. He re-committed to Georgia over Oregon and that was crucial. Athlete Ryan Mosley and offensive lineman Graham Houston are big additions and then four-star defensive back Jordan Smith has star potential. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH GEORGIA FANS AT MIAMI There were only two commitments for Miami in March but there was no bigger pledge in this entire recruiting class than No. 1 overall prospect Jackson Cantwell picking the Hurricanes. Miami beat out Georgia and many others for the five-star offensive tackle and his pledge only further adds to some elite players along the offensive line. Three-star offensive lineman Rhys Woodrow adds depth as the real celebration this month was Cantwell's pledge as Miami ponied up late and landed him. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MIAMI FANS AT NORTHWESTERN Jeff McCulloch/ Advertisement Northwestern entered May with only two commitments. The Wildcats are leaving the month with nine pledges and have some momentum heading into the summer. There were no four-stars but powerful three-star running back Sean Morris out of Los Angeles Loyola and three-star linebacker Jacob Curry out of Ponte Vedra (Fla.) Nease were two big victories. More could be coming as Northwestern has a strong group of prospects on campus this weekend. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NORTHWESTERN FANS AT NOTRE DAME The future of Notre Dame's backfield might have been figured out in May as the Irish landed commitments from four-stars Javian Osborne and Jonaz Walton. Those were two top targets and Notre Dame landed both as the Irish have shown over the years they can run the ball with the best of them. Notre Dame also loaded up on the defensive line as well with four-star defensive tackle Tiki Hola out of Texas and four-star edge Ja'Kobe Clapper out of Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier are two other major pickups in May as the Irish have the second-best class nationally. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NOTRE DAME FANS AT OLE MISS Coach Lane Kiffin and his staff only landed three commitments in May but all three are four-stars and could make an immediate impact in Oxford. Four-star running back Damarius Yates had been committed to Mississippi State so landing him was big. Four-star receiver Corey Barber has had a great offseason, loaded up on offers and is one of the top offensive players in Georgia. And then there is four-star linebacker Izayia Williams, as Ole Miss was his fifth pledge this cycle. Many others are trying to flip him so the Rebels will have some work to keep him until signing day. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OLE MISS FANS AT PENN STATE Will Garlick Advertisement Penn State is up to 17 commitments and the Nittany Lions have the fifth-best class in 2026 as May was really helpful to get there. Landing four-star receiver Davion Brown over Michigan and Georgia was the biggest win of the month but Penn State also did great work in recruiting strongholds Pennsylvania and Virginia. Three-star athlete Jaziel Hart, who picked the Nittany Lions over the Wolverines and many others, could be a sleeper in this group. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PENN STATE FANS AT SMU SMU tied Northwestern with the most commitments in May with seven as the Mustangs loaded up with quantity but also quality. Two four-star receivers came aboard in Aljour Miles, who had Oklahoma and others high on the list, and Jakai Anderson, who flipped from LSU. Adding massive four-star offensive lineman Pupungatoa Katoa was another major win for coach Rhett Lashlee and his staff. Picking up former Texas A&M commit and three-star defensive back Ryan Gilbert was another major recruiting victory as SMU is coming off a run to the College Football Playoff. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH SMU FANS AT TEXAS Half of Texas' recruiting class committed in May and it was an impressive haul for the Longhorns. Getting four-star defensive back Hayward Howard from New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr away from LSU was important. Essentially flipping high three-star defensive back Yaheim Riley from Houston was crucial since he's an Austin kid. But the biggest commitment of the month came from four-star athlete Jermaine Bishop Jr. since he's such a phenomenal athlete. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH TEXAS FANS AT UCLA UCLA went local, regional and national in the month of May to fill out half its recruiting class. Washington once led for four-star defensive lineman Anthony Jones but the Bruins not only closed the gap but got him to commit. UCLA went to powerhouse Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco for three-star linebacker Matthew Muasau. Massive three-star tight end Camden Jensen from Littleton (Colo.) Heritage picked the Bruins. And then former SMU pledge Yahya Gaad, a three-star defensive end out of tiny Medina (Tenn.) South Gibson jumped on board, too. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH UCLA FANS AT USC USC has 27 commitments, the No. 1 class in the country and maybe no team had a better May than the Trojans. It was capped off by beating Georgia for four-star tight end Mark Bowman from Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei. Five-star cornerback Elbert Hill, tops at the position nationally, chose the Trojans over Ohio State and others. Those were the two biggest but other big additions included four-star offensive lineman Keenyi Pepe, four-star edge rusher Shaun Scott, receiver Luc Weaver and linebacker Taylor Johnson. Mark Bowman, No. 1 TE in 2026 class, commits to USC

Mark Bowman, the No. 1 tight end in the 2026 recruiting class, committed to Southern California. The 247Sports composite also ranks Bowman, who reclassified from the 2027 class, as the No. 16 overall prospect in the nation. Bowman plays at powerhouse Mater Dei High School in nearby Santa Ana. His commitment to coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans on Friday disappointed other schools that had been in pursuit, including Texas, Oregon, Georgia and Ole Miss. USC's class is ranked No. 1 by the 247Sports composite. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Bowman is the second five-star recruit in the Trojans' class, joining offensive tackle Keenyi Pepe from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Pepe is ranked No. 2 at his position and No. 6 overall. The Trojans have 27 commits in the class, by far the most of any school ranked in the Top 30. Their West Coast nemesis, Oregon, sits at No. 27 with just seven commits. Notre Dame is ranked No. 2 in the class, followed by defending national champion Ohio State, Penn State and Clemson. USC makes another huge splash on recruiting trail, lands five-star tight end Mark Bowman

USC makes another huge splash on recruiting trail, lands five-star tight end Mark Bowman USC football recruiting tsunami isn't slowing down at all USC football just continues to load up on the recruiting trail. On Friday, the Trojans added to their already top-ranked 2026 recruiting class, landing one of the top players in the cycle: five-star tight end Mark Bowman. Bowman plays at longtime USC feeder program Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. He reclassified from the class of 2027 to 2026 earlier this year. 247Sports Composite ranks him as the No. 16 overall player and the No. 1 tight end in his class. Following the news, the USC football social media account posted a video edit that featured Trojan alum Will Ferrell jumping into a pool in the movie Anchorman. The video was a seemingly subtle troll of Oregon head coach Dan Lanning. Lanning recently went viral on social media for jumping into a pool with a recruit following his pledge to the Ducks, only for him to decommit earlier this week. USC is firmly ahead of Oregon on the recruiting trail right now. Now, it falls on Lincoln Riley to turn those recruiting wins into victories on the field.

France allocates €10m for Chornobyl shelter repairs

France has pledged €10 million to the Chernobyl Shelter Fund of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to finance repairs to the protective shelter over Unit No 4 at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), damaged by a Russian drone. Source: Ukrainian Ministry of Finance press service, cited by European Pravda Details: French representatives announced the contribution during a meeting of the Donor Assembly of the International Chernobyl Cooperation Account. The agreement was signed in London by Pierre Heilbronn, France's Special Representative for Economic Assistance and Reconstruction of Ukraine, and Mark Bowman, EBRD Vice President for Policy and Partnerships. Established by the EBRD in 2020, the International Chernobyl Cooperation Account supports donor cooperation to address Chornobyl's challenges. Its objectives include supporting Ukraine in dismantling unstable shelter structures over Unit No 4, repairing the New Safe Confinement for safe operation, and managing radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. Since Russia's full-scale invasion, the fund's scope has expanded to include measures for restoring nuclear safety and protecting the Chornobyl NPP. The damage to the New Safe Confinement from the Russian drone strike is significant, with full restoration costs estimated to exceed €100 million. The fund currently holds just over €19 million. Background: On the night of 13-14 February, a Russian loitering munition carrying a high-explosive incendiary warhead struck the shelter of Unit No 4 at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Against the backdrop of Russia's strike on the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna called for ramping up military assistance to Ukraine. The head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, called the Russian attack reckless. Support Ukrainska Pravda on Patreon!

Five star tight end prospect preparing for visit to Texas

Next week, the Texas Longhorns will welcome five-star tight end Mark Bowman to campus for a visit. The California native is one of the best players in the 2026 class and is being pursued by some of the top programs in the country. As Texas looks to add to their offense, Bowman is one of the main targets on their wishlist. Over the last few years, Bowman has drawn the interest of schools nationwide due to his skill set. He can be a weapon in the passing game and open up space for his teammates due to his blocking. The Longhorns are competing with Oregon, Alabama, Miami, Ohio State, and Florida. While Bowman has not been to Texas for a while, he is looking forward to his visit and seeing what the program has to offer. " I'm very excited to get back out to Austin and see some of the coaching staff and some of the players. One of the big things I'm looking to see is how that tight-end room looks. Who's going to play, who's going to be in the room with me that I'll be competing with." As Bowman prepares for his recruiting tour, he is coming one of a stellar season. In 2024, Bowman was a MaxPreps All-America second-team selection for the second time. While being a central part of the offense, Bowman helped the Mater Dei Monarchs to a No. 1 national ranking and a MaxPreps National Championship. Although Bowman will have a lot of offers to consider, the Longhorns hope he will be at the top of their list. Next week will be an opportunity for Steve Sarkisian to show Bowman how the Longhorns can get the best out of his skill set. Regardless of how the visit goes, Bowman will be a prospect to watch as recruiting for the 2026 class continues. This article originally appeared on Longhorns Wire: Mark Bowman visits Longhorns
