Perhaps the most celebrated turbulence came during Operation Market Garden, Field Marshal Montgomery's ambitious attempt in September 1944 to 'bounce' a crossing of the Rhine at Arnhem. As a lance corporal in the signal company of Major General Stanislaw Sosabowski's 1st (Polish) Independent Parachute Brigade, the 25-year-old Boleslaw Ostrowski — its last surviving veteran — had a ringside seat at the ill-fated attempt to capture the famous 'bridge too far'. Now open: Irishtown Bend Taproom in Ohio City
Sam McNulty's portfolio of Ohio City haunts grew this weekend with the opening of the Irishtown Bend Taproom. Why it matters: McNulty envisions the new bar, located under the BEER! marquee in the Market Garden Brewing production facility, as a gateway to the eponymous riverfront park slated to open in 2027. What they're saying: He told Crain's the taproom fills a gap in his roster of bars and restaurants, as other locations are "chef-driven with craft beer, cocktails, wine, food menus, two dance clubs." "People were asking for just a bar," he said, "a casual place to enjoy some beers." Drink up: Per Cleveland Magazine, a rotating list of 12 beers will be on tap, featuring Market Garden staples like Citramax IPA and Progress Pilsner, plus a lineup of experimental one-offs. Dig in: There's no kitchen on site, but customers will be able to order food from Market Garden Brewery via QR code. Stop by: For now, the taproom will be open Wednesday-Thursday 11am-6pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-8pm and Sunday noon-4pm.
