German ski jumper Eisenbichler to end his career
Six-time Nordic skiing world championships winner Markus Eisenbichler will end his ski jumping career at the end of the season, the German skiing federation DSV said in a statement on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old German will compete for the final time at the season closing World Cup event in Planica, Sloveia on March 28-30.
"In the past months I have thought a lot about it and my gut feeling told me: It's the right time. It feels good," Eisenbichler said.
"Ski jumping was my life - with ups and downs, with emotions, that I can't put into words."
In the future, he wants to work as a coach.
Eisenbichler has one individual world championships gold medal from Seefeld in 2019 and other five golds from team events. His best Olympics result was a team bronze at Beijing 2022.
Recently, however, he hasn't be able to compete at the previous high level, mostly due to minor injuries and knee problems.
"Markus Eisenbichler, one of the great ski jumpers, is leaving the World Cup stage. The DSV is very grateful to Markus for his many years of passion, energy and, of course, many, many successes," DSV sporting director Horst Hüttel said.
