Rainstorm causes power outages, fallen trees and poles
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — There were dozens of outages impacting hundreds of neighbors following an intense rainstorm overnight.
In one North Memphis neighborhood along Speed Street, trees and utility poles were knocked to the ground, leaving those in the area without power.
'It surprised the h*** out of me. I was surprised that it even happened,' said Martavius, a nearby resident.
Firefighters blocked a portion of the road to allow crew members the chance to make repairs with utility lines lining the street.
Martavius says even though he and his neighbors are without power, he is optimistic that those with the city will step in to help in order to clean things up.
'It would be great if they could cut it down and try to clean up the area for us,' Martavius said.

Those in the Bethel Grove area will also have to clean things up after part of a tree came down in a yard along Kimball Avenue, near Lamar Avenue. The tree landed on top of the family's car.
Memphis Light, Gas, and Water says the power is expected to be restored around 4:30 p.m. The first task was to have city workers move a fallen tree in order for utility workers to install a new pole and transformer.
