God's Pit Crew builds continue to build homes for Hurricane Helene victims
DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) – After Hurricane Helene made landfall along the Gulf Coast of Florida, no one was prepared for the widespread damage the storm brought to mountain towns in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. God's Pit Crew was quick to action to assist neighbors and communities after deadly flooding and destructive tornadoes. The ministry has been working to provide 25 homes to those in impacted regions. Janet Sams – Newport, TN (Photo Credit: God's Pit Crew) Janet lost her home and all her belongings in the storm and worked to rebuild her life and faith. God's Pit Crew assisted her in building her a brand new home with safely elevated stilts to protect her home from future flooding. God's Pit Crew to rebuild home for N.C. family after Hurricane Helene 'I was overwhelmed with joy,' shared Sams on receiving the keys to her new home. 'I thought, 'Oh… this is mine!' This group is amazing. They are literally God's angels.' Greene Family – Marion, NC (Photo Credit: God's Pit Crew) The Greene family lost their home as it slid off the mountain, however, they luckily escaped but lost everything. God's Pit Crew volunteers began to start their new chapter in their new home that was fully furnished in Marion, North Carolina. God's Pit Crew aids tornado and wildfire victims with supplies According to God's Pit Crew, they said, Turning around to see their new house for the first time, Brian and Melissa were rendered speechless. And then, through tears and excitement, Melissa exclaimed, 'Oh, it's too pretty to live in! It's like you crawled right into my head to see my dream home. It's just so gorgeous!' Blair Family – Ivanhoe, Va. (Photo Credit: God's Pit Crew) Eric and Cathy Blair watched their home wash off its foundation due to floodwater, which caused them to relocate. Volunteer crews worked to provide them with a new home. 'It was the worst thing we've ever been through,' shared Eric Blair, reliving the storm's initial impact. 'The river kept coming up, and it washed us off the foundation. It took everything we had.' God's Pit Crew in need of volunteers to assist crews after flooding 'Words can't express how we feel,' said Cathy Blair. 'Thank you doesn't cover it. We're putting it [the storm] behind us and are ready to start over.' Ralph Greene – Marion, NC (Photo Credit: God's Pit Crew) Ralph lost everything in his home; however, now he is home once again. Ralph shared: 'I kept this acre, raised my three kids, and they grew up and moved on. It's home. It's all I know. And this new home, it's perfect – it'll last me the rest of my life, and I won't have to do anything! I can just enjoy my time with my grandbabies.' God's Pit Crew partners with Martinsville Speedway for food aid Ralph summed it up best, sharing, 'It takes a special group of people. I love them all. The quality of people they are, the work they do – anything I could say would be an understatement.' Linda Taylor – Galax, Va. (Photo Credit: God's Pit Crew) Linda was displaced for seven months after a river near her home washed her house away. She now has the keys to her new home. 'Oh wow… how beautiful! It gets prettier as you go,' shared Linda as she walked through her front door. 'I just can't believe how good God has been – and God's Pit Crew and the volunteers, number one, they are absolutely number one. My goodness gracious, I wasn't expecting all this.' God's Pit Crew sends aid to Southern California; continues to help Western North Carolina rebuild Linda said, 'Look where I'm starting. What else could you ask for?' Fisher Family – Nebo, NC. (Photo Credit: God's Pit Crew) The Fisher Family almost lost everything as their home sat on the Catawba River. They were able to evacuate early, however, when they returned after the storm, their home was left unlivable in borrowed campers. 'We were just going through life. Being a husband. Being a wife. Being Parents. We didn't expect to see all of that happen,' shared Brandon Fisher. 'You want to be able to fix everything. To tell your children and wife that it's all going to be alright, but I couldn't do that. I didn't know how everything was going to turn out.' God's Pit Crew partners with Martinsville Speedway for food aid
MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WFXR) – God's Pit Crew and the Martinsville Speedway have teamed up to distribute boxes of food and daily essentials to local residents. The Food Box Distribution event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Martinsville Speedway and will provide immediate assistance to those in Southside and surrounding areas. Anyone interested in participating can enter from Business 220 to Industrial Park Road to then turn onto Clover Road. From there follow the signs and instructions from the volunteers. The event is meant to benefit anyone who needs food and household items. Community members can pick up one box of food per family along with a case of drinks. Two families may be represented per vehicle. One representative must be present from each family. Food Lion launches three-week Orange Bag Campaign The boxes will weigh around 25 pounds and include, but not be limited to, canned goods, shelf-stable foods, pasta, and a bible. No pre-registration is required as the event is open to all in Martinsville, Henry County, and other surrounding areas. 'We are honored to work with God's Pit Crew to support this important cause,' said Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell. 'This partnership represents the strength and compassion of our community, and we're thrilled to be part of an effort that will provide essential supplies to those who need them most.' The donation is before the Speedway's Spring NASCAR weekend, which thousands of racing fans attend.
