Time to enter your guess in Joe's Pond Ice Out
It's time to make your best guess for when the ice will be gone from Joe's Pond.
The Joe's Pond Association has announced that tickets are now available for the 2025 Ice Out Contest, which began 37 years ago in 1988.
That first contest sold fewer than 1000 tickets were sold. Last year, more than 12,000 tickets were sold.
The winner in 2024 was a Danville man who guessed April 14 at 4:09 a.m., the closest to the official Ice Out time of 4:02 a.m.
The man received a check for $6,600.
Another check went to the Joe's Pond Association, which uses their half of the money raised by ticket sales to keep the pond clean and the July 4th fireworks.
Tickets are $1 per guess and can be purchased online at the Joe's Pond Association website, Hasting's Store in West Danville Marty's First Stop in Danville, and at local vendors in Cabot, St. Johnsbury, Danville, Marshfield, Barre, and Montpelier.
