Poland graduate hits walk-off homer to win conference title
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Mary Brant, a Poland Seminary graduate and Robert Morris freshman, delivered a dramatic two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting the Colonials past Purdue Fort Wayne in the Horizon League Championship. Brant finished the day 2-for-4 with her 11th home run of the season while driving in two runs. The Horizon League Freshman of the Year posted a .545 batting average (6-for-11) during the conference tournament. Her batting average now sits at .367 along with 38 runs batted in. With the win, RMU softball now sits at 30-16 overall as they punch their ticket to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2005. Poland product earns league co-Freshman of the Year honors in college
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (WKBN) – Poland High School graduate and current Robert Morris University softball standout Mary Brant was named Horizon League Co-Freshman of the Year. The Horizon League announced its softball postseason awards on Tuesday afternoon. She is currently seventh in the conference with a .352 batting average. In addition, she is third in the league in home runs with 10 and sixth in RBIs with 36. Brant has also piled up 9 doubles and three triples for the Colonials in her first season in the college ranks. Poland native continues tear as Robert Morris wins 8th straight
KENT, Ohio (WKBN) – Robert Morris freshman and Poland native Mary Brant stayed hot with a run-scoring double during the Colonials' 12-4 win over Kent State on Tuesday. Brant finished the day 1-for-4 with a double and run batted in during the Colonials' eighth straight victory. On the season, the Poland Seminary graduate leads the team with a .367 batting average and .873 slugging percentage. She also is ranked in the top three on the team with five home runs (2nd), 18 RBI (2nd), seven doubles (2nd), three triples (1st) and 20 hits (3rd). During the win streak, Brant is 10-for-28 with three home runs and 11 runs batted in. Poland grad has breakout game for Robert Morris Softball
SALEM, Va (WKBN) – Poland High School graduate Mary Brant is having a breakout season for Robert Morris softball as she smacked her first collegiate home run in a 14-1 win against Bucknell, Sunday afternoon. The Slugger recorded a two-run home run in the victory. Brant also had two hits and drove in two runs in three at bats in the win. Brant currently has a .357 batting average with five hits in 14 at-bats. The freshman has also drove-in three runs for Robert Morris this season. In her senior season for the Bulldogs, Brant recorded school and Ohio history as she drove in 10 runs in a single-game. The performance puts her tied ninth all time for the most RBI's recorded in a single-game. The Poland graduate has 115 career home runs and drove-in 107 runs for the Bulldogs. She also has a .453 batting average with a .500 on-base percentage. Robert Morris is currently 4-4 on the season.
