Humid Nights and Stormy Start to the Weekend Across Maryland

A humid and unsettled weather pattern will continue across Maryland heading into the weekend, with multiple chances for rain and thunderstorms before a stretch of drier weather returns next week. Overnight: Skies will remain partly cloudy Thursday night, with warm and humid conditions persisting. Overnight lows will struggle to fall much below the mid-60s, particularly in urban areas and along the I-95 corridor. Patchy fog may develop in some of the more rural valleys by early morning, but no significant rain is expected overnight. Friday Forecast: Friday will bring another warm and muggy day. Highs will climb well into the 80s across much of central Maryland, with the highest readings likely in areas east of I-95 where sunshine breaks through more frequently. Skies will be partly cloudy for much of the day, and while most of the region remains dry through the morning and early afternoon, a chance for scattered thunderstorms will develop later in the day — mainly west of I-95. The Storm Prediction Center has placed areas west of a Westminster-to-Frederick line under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather. The primary threats will be isolated damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours. Any storms that do develop will be most likely between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday Night into Saturday: A more organized batch of showers and storms is expected to move through the region overnight Friday into early Saturday morning as a weak front slides through. Rain could be locally heavy in some spots, especially before sunrise on Saturday. Lows will dip back into the mid to upper 60s overnight. By Saturday, skies will gradually begin to clear from west to east, though scattered showers may linger into the late morning. The best chance for rain will be in the morning hours, followed by drier conditions later in the day. Temperatures will be a touch cooler due to cloud cover and rain-cooled air, with highs hovering near 80 degrees. Sunday into Early Next Week: Unsettled weather continues into Sunday, with additional chances for scattered showers and storms. Highs will be a bit cooler in the low to mid-70s thanks to thicker cloud cover. Monday will bring a brief warm-up, with highs climbing back into the 80s under partly sunny skies. Another round of scattered storms is possible, especially during the afternoon and evening. Storm chances increase again on Tuesday as another disturbance moves through the Mid-Atlantic. Temperatures will once again reach into the 80s with humid conditions. Looking Ahead: By Wednesday, a more stable pattern finally settles in. Sunshine returns midweek with daytime highs staying in the 80s and overnight lows comfortably in the 60s. This dry and pleasant weather is expected to continue through at least Friday.

Warmest Temperatures of the Year Expected Across Maryland This Week

Marylanders can expect a taste of summer this week as the region warms up to the highest temperatures of the year so far, with hazy skies and the return of 90-degree heat on the horizon. After a string of cooler nights, conditions will turn noticeably milder Monday night. Skies will remain clear and temperatures are expected to settle in the lower to middle 50s across most of the state. On Tuesday, skies will take on a hazy appearance, not from clouds, but due to a plume of Canadian wildfire smoke drifting into the region. While the smoke will remain elevated, it will reduce air quality slightly. The Maryland Department of the Environment has placed the region in the "moderate" category for air quality, meaning those with respiratory issues should take precautions. Afternoon highs will climb into the low to mid 80s under filtered sunshine. The real heat arrives midweek. Wednesday through Friday could bring the first 90-degree readings of the year to many areas, with highs each afternoon reaching the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. Overnight lows will offer some relief, holding in the upper 50s to 60s. A cold front will approach from the west by late Friday, bringing with it a slight chance for thunderstorms across western Maryland. However, much of central Maryland, including the Baltimore metro area, is expected to remain dry through Friday night. Storm chances increase by Saturday as the front pushes farther east. Scattered thunderstorms—some of which could be strong—may develop during the afternoon and evening hours. Highs will still reach the mid 80s before the cooler air behind the front settles in. Temperatures will dip slightly to start next week, but the cooldown will be brief. Forecasts suggest a return to the 80s for highs by the middle of next week, continuing a warm and unsettled early June pattern. Residents should monitor daily forecasts, especially those with outdoor plans later in the week, as storm chances evolve heading into the weekend.

More rain chances expected for Maryland this week

More scattered showers forecasted for Tuesday in Maryland More scattered showers forecasted for Tuesday in Maryland More scattered showers forecasted for Tuesday in Maryland A slow-moving upper-level low continues to bring widespread rain to the region Tuesday, with moderate to heavy downpours possible through the evening. Rainfall totals by Wednesday morning could approach 3 inches in localized areas, with most spots picking up around 2 inches — a much-needed boost for the region's moisture levels after being nearly 5 inches below normal for the year. Showers will taper off overnight, becoming more widely scattered and spotty. Low temperatures will dip into the low to mid-60s. The persistent rain may disrupt outdoor plans, including Tuesday evening's Orioles game, which appears likely to face delays or a potential rainout. By Wednesday, skies will turn partly to mostly cloudy with a fresh round of scattered thunderstorms developing during the afternoon. Highs will climb into the 70s. The unsettled pattern continues into Thursday as the upper-level low shifts east. Rain chances will remain, but coverage should be more limited, especially during the afternoon. Another round of showers and storms is possible Friday afternoon, with highs approaching 80 degrees. As the weekend begins, Saturday will bring continued storm chances — particularly in the afternoon — which could impact the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico. Highs on Saturday will rise into the low to mid-80s. By Sunday, brighter and drier conditions finally return. Expect mostly sunny skies with highs in the low 80s. The fair weather continues into Monday with near-80-degree highs and overnight lows in the 50s and 60s. The next rainmaker is set to arrive next Wednesday, bringing another chance for scattered showers and storms.
