Selena Gomez Reflects on Child Star Past in ‘Younger and Hotter Than Me' Video

Along with the arrival of their new joint album, I Said I Love You First, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco have dropped a new music video for their song, 'Younger and Hotter Than Me.' The solemn, atmospheric ballad finds Gomez grappling with the anxieties of aging, especially as a former partner moves on: 'We're not getting any younger/But your girlfriends seem to,' she sings at one point. While the lyrics contend with this idea in terms of romantic relationships, the music video, directed by Jake Schreier, appears to tackle it from the perspective of a career in the entertainment industry. More from Rolling Stone Selena Gomez, Jessica Simpson, Japanese Breakfast, and All the Songs You Need to Know This Week Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco's Love Story Album 'I Said I Love You First' Is Out Selena Gomez Forgets Benny Blanco's Songs While He Forgets How to Read on 'Hot Ones' The video essentially follows Gomez as she lives a mundane life on a gigantic studio lot. There seem to be some not-so-subtle nods to her Disney and child star past as she brushes her teeth next to a young woman dressed as a princess and later walks past shoot for a, well, let's just call it a musical production in a high school. The one bit of reprieve comes when Blanco stops by for lunch, but he eventually has to leave as well. 'Younger and Hotter Than Me' was one of two songs on I Said I Love You First that Gomez and Blanco made with Finneas, the other being 'Scared of Loving You.' The 14-track album, out today March 21, features an array of collaborators, including Gracie Abrams, J Balvin, Maria Zardoya of the Marías, and GloRilla. Along with Finneas, Cashmere Cat and Blake Slatkin also assisted with the production. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the couple spoke about making the album, which serves as a kind of chronicle of their current relationship, and everything that led up to it. 'That's the most intimate I've ever been in a studio,' Gomez said. 'We did everything from home, and we created it with people that we love.' Blanco added of Gomez, 'I hadn't seen her excited about music for a long time. And I remember she was like, 'I have to pull over the car because I'm so happy.' And then I knew at that moment. I was like, 'Well, if it's making both of us happy, then hopefully it makes a few other people happy.''
