Asaram seeks extension of temporary bail
As the Gujarat high court's three-month extension of interim bail granted to Ashumal Harpalani, alias Asaram Bapu, in connection with a rape case is nearing an end, he filed an application on Tuesday seeking another extension on medical grounds.
The HC issued notice to the state govt and posted the hearing on Asaram's application for June 27. In March, the HC extended Asaram's bail term for three months after the Supreme Court earlier released him on bail to avail medical treatment.

The Gujarat high court upheld the life sentence of Hussain Ishak Masalawala, convicted for murdering a 16-year-old student, Kiran Kakadiya, during communal violence in Surat in 2000.
The incident occurred after a political party called for a shutdown following an attack on the Amarnath Yatra. The murder took place in Surat's Nanavat area when police found the boy being attacked by three men. Two fled, but Masalawala was caught with a knife.
A Surat court sentenced Masalawala to life imprisonment in 2015 based on eyewitness accounts, including police testimony. The HC found no reason to interfere with the trial court's order and confirmed the sentence. Masalawala has already spent 10 years in prison.
