Oman: South Sharqiyah reviews key projects to boost housing, tourism
Muscat – The Municipal Council of South Sharqiyah governorate held a meeting on Tuesday to review a range of ongoing and proposed development projects across housing, tourism, infrastructure and urban planning sectors. The meeting was chaired by Governor Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali and formed part of the governorate's broader transformation agenda. Initial discussions included updates from the Digital Transformation Team and findings from the recent Housing Visions hackathon, which explored innovative solutions to address housing needs in the region. A report from the General Directorate of Housing and Urban Planning highlighted support being extended to low-income families, in line with national objectives to improve living conditions and promote inclusive urban growth. Tourism development featured prominently in the discussions. Among the proposals reviewed were the planned Saih al Sandah Park in Jalan Bani Bu Ali, a falaj walkway in Al Kamil Wal Wafi, the Qurun waterfront development in Jalan Bani Bu Hassan, and infrastructure upgrades at Masirah Port aimed at enhancing visitor access and experience. The council reaffirmed its focus on projects aligned with national strategies, while catering to local requirements. Infrastructure efforts under review included rehabilitation of the road leading to Masirah Hospital, improved main street signage, installation of pedestrian crossings, paving of roads to the Ashkhara Industrial Area, and the construction of a new fish market in Sur, designed to meet environmental and public health criteria. The session also saw the launch of a new visual identity for the Jalan Bani Bu Ali General Endowment Foundation. Seeb and Majees shine in OVL qualifiers
MUSCAT: Seeb and Majees clubs secured important victories in the second stage of the final qualifiers for the Oman Volleyball League. At the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, Seeb dominated Masirah with a straight-set victory (3-0). The first set started with a balanced exchange between both teams, as Masirah attempted to keep up with Seeb's pace in the early points. However, Seeb soon imposed its dominance with powerful attacks and well-organised defence, securing the set 25-17. In the second set, Masirah raised its level of play and delivered a more competitive performance, benefiting from improved first-ball reception and a varied offensive strategy. Despite this, Seeb's experience proved decisive in the crucial moments, allowing them to turn the set in their favour with a 25-22 win. The third set saw Seeb take control from the start, capitalising on Masirah's defensive lapses. This gave them a clear advantage, leading to an easy 25-16 win and a straight-set victory. In a thrilling five-set encounter at Al Amal Club Hall in Bausher, Majees overcame Al Bashayer with a hard-fought 3-2 victory. The opening set was highly competitive, with both teams exchanging points until the final moments, where Majees narrowly secured a 27-25 win. However, Al Bashayer quickly responded in the second set, levelling the match with a 26-24 victory in a set that featured intense performances from both sides. Seeb and Majees shine in OVL qualifiers Majees regained control in the third set, capitalising on strong attacking plays and solid defensive positioning to claim the set 25-21. However, Al Bashayer bounced back strongly in the fourth set, taking advantage of defensive errors from Majees to win 25-20 and force a decisive fifth set. In the tiebreaker, Majees asserted its dominance from the outset, quickly pulling ahead and widening the gap as Al Bashayer's performance declined. This allowed Majees to seal the set 15-8, earning a crucial victory in their first match of the second stage of the final qualifiers. Majees is now preparing for a tough match against Seeb on Wednesday at Sohar Sports Complex, while Al Salam will face Masirah on Friday at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher as part of the second stage of the final qualifiers for the Volleyball League. At the end of the first stage's fourth round, Seeb topped the standings with 10 points, followed by Majees in second place with 8 points. Al Salam ranked third with 6 points, tied with Al Bashayer, while Masirah remained at the bottom with no points.

MUSCAT, FEB 26 Seeb secured a well-deserved victory over Mirbat with a straight-set win (3-0) in the quarterfinals of the Ministry Volleyball Shield Championship. The match took place on Tuesday at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, earning Seeb a spot in the semifinals. Seeb started the match strongly, relying on powerful serves and an effective blocking line, which gave them the upper hand for most of the set. However, Mirbat showed resilience and managed to close the gap in the final moments. Despite this, Seeb clinched the set thanks to their swift attacking plays, winning 25-22. In the second set, Seeb played with greater focus and quickly established dominance with diverse attacking plays, especially from the wings. Their efficient first-ball reception allowed them to extend their lead early. Mirbat attempted to regain momentum, but Seeb maintained their strong performance, securing the set with a comfortable 25-17 win. The third set was more competitive, with Mirbat improving their defensive play and keeping pace with Seeb for significant portions of the set. Al Bashayer started the match strongly, imposing their rhythm from the outset with powerful spikes and a solid blocking line, which helped them gain an early lead. On the other hand, Masirah attempted to reduce the deficit by improving their reception and diversifying their attacks, but they struggled to keep up with Al Bashayer's fast-paced play. The first set ended in a commanding 25-16 win for Al Bashayer. Al Bashayer continued their impressive performance in the second set, excelling in precise passing and quick offensive transitions, making it difficult for Masirah to catch up. Despite Masirah's efforts to stay in the game by improving their defence and applying pressure with well-placed serves, Al Bashayer maintained their dominance and took the set 25-17. The third set was more competitive, with Masirah stepping up their game and minimising errors compared to the previous sets, keeping the score close on several occasions. However, Al Bashayer capitalised on their players' experience and composure in crucial moments, closing the set 25-19 and securing a straight-set victory. With these results, Seeb and Al Bashayer will face off in the semifinals.
