MIRI (June 10): Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin on Sunday visited the Masjid Abu Bakar As-Siddiq to inspect the improved facilities.
'When I came to the mosque in April, the acting chairman of the committee mentioned the existing capacity was no longer sufficient. There was available space at the side (of the building), so I suggested extending the building,' he said.
The renovations included extending the main prayer hall and adding glass windows around the new room to let in more natural light.
Lee added that as Hari Raya Aidiladha was approaching, he tried to expedite the works to ensure timely completion.
Meanwhile, according to the mosque's committee acting chairman Sabeli Jantan, it could previously accommodate around 200 people during Friday prayers but with the new extension, could now hold up to 400 people.

Lee said that moving forward, more air-conditioning units would be installed to make the mosque more comfortable for worshippers.
During his visit, he also joined the local community for the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations and distribution of 'korban' meat. He had donated one buffalo for the 'asnaf' (those eligible to receive tithes) and needy families in the area.
Lee also conducted a walkabout, where he met with the mosque's committee members and residents from the area. community Hari Raya Aidiladha lead Lee Kim Shin Masjid Abu Bakar As-Siddiq
