Zamalek confident of beating Stellenbosch to CAF Confederation Cup semis: Coach Peseiro - Egyptian Football

Zamalek coach Jose Peseiro says his team is confident and well-prepared to win Tuesday's game against South Africa's Stellenbosch in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal. The Cairo giants were frustrated after hosts Stellenbosch held them to a 0-0 draw in the first leg on Wednesday. 'We will face an organized team. We are confident of ourselves and ready for the game. The team prepared seriously to achieve victory and reach the semis,' Peseiro said in the pre-match press conference on Tuesday. Zamalek will capitalize on their home advantage in the return leg in Cairo. According to the Portuguese coach, the team will work hard to avoid the mistakes of the first leg. 'We always work to improve the negative points in the trainings at both the striking and defensive levels. We delivered a good game at the defensive level against Stellenbosch and also in the recent cup game,' the Zamalek coach explained. 'We were not at our best striking shape in the first leg and we assess the performance to improve it and keep the team's organized shape,' he added. Peseiro finally highlighted that the South African opponent is a good and organized team, hailing their supremacy in counterattacks and set pieces. The winner between Zamalek and Stellenbosch will face the victor of the Masry-Simba clash in the semifinals. Stubborn Stellenbosch frustrate Zamalek in Confederation Cup Quarterfinal - Egyptian Football

Zamalek was left frustrated in South Africa after Stellenbosch held them to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal on Wednesday. The Egyptian giants controlled much of the possession but failed to find the cutting edge needed to break down a resolute Stellenbosch defense. Zamalek created their best opportunity late in the second half when substitute Nasser Mansi saw his close-range header tipped onto the post by goalkeeper Sage Lottering in the 86th minute. The rebound was cleared as Stellenbosch narrowly escaped what would have been a heartbreaking concession. The first half was a measured affair, with Zamalek setting the tempo early. Seifeddine Jaziri and Mostafa Shalaby tested the South African backline with a few half chances. Keeper Mohamed Awaad had little to do in the opening 45 minutes but remained alert, especially during a dangerous cross from Ashley Cupido and a near-post header by Andre de Jong in the 72nd minute. Both sides made key substitutions in the second half to influence the contest. Stellenbosch's Ibraheem Olalekan and Sanele Barns came on to inject pace, while Zamalek introduced Mahmoud Gehad and Nasser Mansi in search of a breakthrough. Despite their late surge and attacking intent, Zamalek couldn't convert their dominance into goals. Stellenbosch, meanwhile, showed tactical discipline and will be satisfied with the result, taking a clean sheet back to Cairo for the second leg. Zamalek will now look to capitalize on their home advantage in the return leg in Cairo on 9 April. The winner will face the victor of the Masry-Simba clash in the semifinals.
