'Top Chef': Big loss for Canadians just before the competition moves to Italy for the final
Lana's elimination in last week's episode of Top Chef Season 22 was certainly felt by the remaining chefs. But the competition must go on and this week, the chefs received mystery bags with foraging gear. It was exciting for some, an intimidating unknown challenge for others. As the chefs headed to Quarry Lake in Alberta, they met up with host Kristen Kish, who announced that there wouldn't be a Quickfire Challenge. Additionally, this is the last Elimination Challenge in Canada. Brenda Holder, Cree knowledge keeper of traditional medicine owner, Mahikan Trails, was on site to tell the chefs about her family's lineage of people who survived on the land. And Tracy Little, chef and owner of Sauvage restaurant, and master forager, also greeted the competitors. Each chef had to create a dish using foraged ingredients, with Brenda and Tracy there to assist. They also had $200 to shop for remaining ingredients and there was an additional pantry of foraged ingredients. For Massimo, who won last week's challenge, he had an additional 30 minutes to cook. There was also $10,000 up for grabs for the winner. Joining the judges table this week, Nicole Gomes, chef and co-founder of Cluck n Cleaver, Paul Rogalski, chef and co-owner of Rouge restaurant and co-host of Wild Harvest, Scott Iserhoff, chef and founder of Pei Pei Chei Ow, and Indigenous herbalist Matricia Bauer. The dishes each chef made, and the feedback from the judges, was as follows: Tristen — "OG Jerk" pork, plantain miso glaze, Quarry Lake callaloo and coal roasted roots — Brenda liked that she could really taste the land in the dish, Gail Simmons loved the sweetness in the sauce and the balance with the pork and greens César — Mushroom trompo, mushroom pibil broth and toasted ants — Scott loved the soup, Kristen said the dish was "completely dialled in" Bailey — Lamb spiedino with grilled dandelion salad, "cowtown" cowpeas and thistle root purée — Brenda loved the lamb, Nicole said the peas were a little too crunchy Shuai — Roasted cabbage with rose hip-glazed pork belly, sour cabbage broth, lovage and thatching ant togarashi — Scott highlighted how much flavour was in the dish, Brenda loved how nicely the flavours played together, Gail said it was "excellent" and Tom Colicchio was "absolutely loving it" Massimo — Grilled trout with mustard sauce, smoked potato purée and bannock with wildflowers — Gail said the bannock felt very "intense," Nicole said it was a very "elegant" dish Shuai won the Elimination Challenge, securing his spot in the final in Milan and receiving $10,000. But Massimo, the one Canadian chef in the competition, didn't get the chance to leave the country, eliminated from the competition. And so the "Destination Canada" season of the show continues, without a Canadian chef.

Can A Car's LiDAR Sensor Damage Your Phone Camera? Viral Video Sparks Debate
A video going viral on social media claims that pointing the phone camera directly at a car's LiDAR sensor could be an expensive affair. In the 18-second clip, the OP can be seen filming the Volvo EX90 electric SUV, which comes with LiDAR technology to make the driving experience smoother and safer. As the camera zooms into the LiDAR sensor, it is immediately peppered by a galaxy of colourful dots which form over the exact spot that flashing light from the sensor hits. LiDAR, short for light detection and ranging, is the eye of modern autonomous systems. The technology uses infrared light waves to collect information about the car's surroundings and identify the distance to objects and certain aspects of their movement or appearance. While some claimed that the video was edited, subject experts revealed that smartphone cameras can indeed be damaged when they are pointed straight at the LiDAR sensor. "Yeah, this is a real thing. As a professional videographer, it has happened to colleagues of mine," said one social media user, while another added: "People freaking out with microwave oven while they are totally fine with car Lidar which beams out high energy high frequency laser." A third commented: "So that means we probably shouldn't be looking at the car lasers with our face-eyes either, right?" Filming this car's LiDAR system breaks the phone camera — Massimo (@Rainmaker1973) May 15, 2025 Volvo warns Even Volvo, on its website, has issued an official warning, reminding people not to point their cameras or any other device at the sensor. "Do not point a camera directly at the lidar. The lidar, being a laser-based system, uses infrared light waves that may cause damage to certain camera devices. This can include smartphones or phones equipped with a camera," read the statement. Though it is not advisable to look directly into LiDAR sensors, Volvo uses 1665-nanometer lasers, which is believed to be harmless as the light cannot reach the retina at that wavelength. While Volvo uses LiDAR for its autonomous vehicles, Elon Musk's Tesla relies on a combination of cameras for navigation. The billionaire famously called LiDAR a 'crutch' for autonomous vehicles, claiming that they were expensive and not needed for the self-driving technology.

Has Real Men been renewed for Season 2? Here's what we know:
Renewed or Cancelled? Real Men is the latest comedy on Netflix, with an energetic cast and a simple premise. Having watched the first season in its entirety, you may be wondering if this one has been renewed or cancelled. Well, wonder no more! What is Real Men about? Real Men centers on four middle-aged friends – Massimo, Luigi, Riccardo and Mattia – who find themselves forced to navigate changing gender dynamics. Through humour, the four confront bias and toxic masculinity, redefining relationships and roles amid the push for equality. Has Real Men been renewed for Season 2? At the time of writing, Real Men has not been renewed for season 2. Generally Netflix would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show's future is made. So far, Real Men has had a very mixed reaction online from critics and audiences alike. Given the way this show is set up, and the ending we receive, we're predicting that this will not be renewed for a second season. Getting Deja Vu watching this? Well, Real Men's premise is almost identical to Alpha Males, Shafted and Roosters that are all basically the same show in different languages. This has been well-trodden ground for a while now. The series has potential no doubt, but as we've seen with shows like Money Heist: Korea, just rebooting a show into a different country doesn't always work. We also know completion rate is a massive metric for these streamers and this feels like one of those shows that people will drop before the end. However, we could be completely wrong too, so take our prediction with a pinch of salt! What we know about season 2 so far: Barely anything is known about Real Men season 2 at this point given Netflix haven't officially renewed or cancelled this one. Given the first season's conclusion and the hopes from cast and crew for more, we'd likely get another 8 episode season if this one is renewed. Furthermore, the story's tone and style will likely remain very similar to what we've been graced with in season 1. We will update this page when more information becomes available, so be sure to check this page out in the near future. Would you like to see Real Men return for a second season? What's been your favourite part of the show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
