In Search Of Heat
22:50 Min Kevin gets inspired by a MasterChef Singapore finalist, treks through a jungle in Selangor to cook with the Orang Asli, then meets a celebrity chef who lets him have a taste of Malaccan royalty. In Search Of Heat About the show: In Search Of Heat is back for a second serving with Fiji-born Singaporean private chef and photographer, Kevin Lee. In Season 1, Kevin was just starting to plant his roots here after living overseas for decades - becoming Singaporean while embracing his Fijian upbringing. These days, he continues to run his private dining supper club and has a small farm where he plants and harvests his own fresh ingredients. In this second season, Kevin goes on a wild road trip up north to Malaysia and Thailand on a journey beyond incorporating chilli and heat as part of his culinary identity. This time, he is looking outward as he travels to gather inspiration from our spice-loving neighbours to unearth some of the hottest dishes in the Southeast Asian region. He also rediscovers centuries-old cooking techniques that have almost disappeared, and even uncovers some of the most unsuspecting ingredients that go into mind-blowingly spicy concoctions worthy of ancient royalty.

Beloved '80s vegetarian stall's hawker passes away, stall reopens after temporary closure
It's no wonder the skies have been crying lately. Mdm Cho Tai Ho, the hawker lady behind Ruyi Yuan Vegetarian in Redhill passed away on 14 Apr. The stall was closed from 17 to 21 Apr, and will reopen on 22 Apr. Mdm Cho's unfortunate passing was first announced on Ruyi Yuan's official Instagram account on 15 Apr with a notice of the Redhill stall's temporary break in operations. Her family often described her as 'lovable', a 'cutie' and 'beloved' in their social media posts, and she was always pictured with a cheerful smile on her face. Ruyi Yuan Vegetarian is reported to have opened in Redhill in 1983 and is now a third-generation hawker stall specialising in vegetarian economic . It has only one other outlet (at Ang Mo Kio), though it's sometimes mistaken for Ru Yi Yuan at Bukit Batok despite being a separate business. Ruyi Yuan Vegetarian's main Redhill outlet is the more popular one, which sees long lines of customers daily. Each plate or packet costs S$4, while add-on ingredients and extra, or are S$0.50 each. Its mock meat options include meatless dumplings, goose neck, , Vegetarian Drumsticks (3 for S$2) and Vegetarian Fishballs (5 for S$1). They are so well done that many have dubbed the stall the 'best vegetarian stall in Singapore'. The third generation of Ruyi Yuan Vegetarian, Mdm Cho's grandchildren, have also started More!, a crispy soy beancurd skin snack brand based on the stall's recipe. Inspired by customers' requests for zai er in their bee hoon, they had turned the vegetarian soy crisps into a new product to be enjoyed whenever and wherever. It looks as though Mdm Cho's legacy and the business she started will still live on. Let's wish Ruyi Yuan Vegetarian and her family the best, and support them during this difficult period after the reopening. MasterChef Singapore runner-up's viral shio pans are back for 9 months – 3 exciting new flavours
Over the past few months, were you one of the lucky ones who got to try the yummilicious shio pans from Shio & Sato? If you couldn't keep up with the rat race of securing an order during the past 1-month pop-up at Takashimaya, Wisma Atria, and Tom's Palette — now's the perfect time to. Shio & Sato is currently at The Centrepoint for 9 whole months! Yes, you heard me right! The popular buttery, salted rolls — brought to you exclusively by Genevieve Lee, runner-up of MasterChef Singapore — are available from now till the end of Dec 2025 or Jan 2026 (subject to change). Shio & Sato at The Centrepoint is located at #01-33 F/G within Gastro+, next to Misato and opposite Ollie Kitchen + Bar. It opens from 12pm to 5pm (or till sold out), and only walk-ins are allowed (no pre-order). The best part? There is now a dine-in area for you to enjoy them on the spot! Each individual piece is hand-stretched, rolled and baked fresh daily. Are there any new flavours to look forward to? Yes, there are 3 in total — 1 savoury and 2 sweet. Let me dive into each of them right away. Are you a garlic bread lover? Then try the all-new Garlic Herb Cheese (S$5.50). At first bite, the sesame‑dusted Garlic Herb Cheese Shio Pan tasted alright. With each subsequent mouthful, however, the flavour grew on me as the aromatic butter and garlic notes became increasingly robust. The Chocolate (S$4.80), with its rich-brown crust and sweet chocolate filling, is elevated by just a tinge of salt that makes all the difference. Gen recommended the Butter (S$6.50) which, honestly, left me a little underwhelmed for someone who isn't crazy about red bean. But after trying it, I might just be a convert — if only for a few moments. You know that creamy, cold stick of butter you love in your kaya toast? Now picture it blended with rich. nutty Azuki beans, and tucked into the salty, chewy crust of a shio pan — it was pure perfection, at least in my eyes. The usual signature favourites will also be available, including the Sea Salt (S$3.60), Kombu Shio Pan (S$4.80), Hokkaido Milk (S$5.80) and my personal favourite — the Green Chilli Onion Shio Pan (S$5.50). You can also get beverages to go with your shio pans like Tonic (S$8.50), iced Double Shot (S$8.90), iced Chocolate (S$6), just to name a few. Whether you're an existing fan or have never tried Shio & Sato, now's your chance to at The Centrepoint!
