Cheatham County Sheriff's Office deploying lifesaving tool
CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Lifesaving tools are coming to Cheatham County. Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) can restore a person's normal heartbeat if they go into cardiac arrest.
The Cheatham County Sheriff's Office has wanted some for quite a while, but budget cuts kept getting in the way until a company stepped in.
One AED can be pricey, reaching up to $2,500, a price the sheriff's office says they just couldn't afford.

However, after looking around, they found a company that partners with law enforcement agencies called Master Medical Equipment, which offered to sell them 27 AEDs for half the price, saving them thousands of dollars.
Now they're able to put AEDs in 70% of their patrol cars, as well as install two at the sheriff's office.
Lt. Chris Gilmore said having this tool will save countless lives.
'It's very proactive from a sheriff's office standpoint. Typically, we're dealing with crime and calls like that, and this puts another lifesaving measure at our men's and women's fingertips to help with EMS and fire,' Gilmore said. 'A lot of times, my men and women are the first ones to respond or CPR in progress, whatever the case may be. What we found is early CPR and early defibrillation are the key to saving lives.'

Lt. Gilmore said the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office will go through a training process and make sure all of their deputies are up to date on how AEDs work.
