Facilities at Ruwi Business District to be upgraded

Muscat Municipality has awarded the tender for the Ruwi Business District Development Project, as part of its strategy to develop commercial districts. The project will include enhancing green spaces, creating additional seating areas and parking spaces to ensure smooth traffic flow, pedestrian walkways, and the use of modern technology, among other facilities. The project is part of Muscat Municipality's efforts to enhance the city's urban landscape, enhance the quality of life, and provide an integrated urban environment centered on sustainability and people, serving all segments of society. The project, which spans an area of around 360,000 square meters, will be implemented over 16 months. The project includes landscaping and green spaces covering approximately 6,500 square meters, in addition to the creation of shaded areas and additional seating areas, and the provision of 2,458 new parking spaces, which will contribute to enhancing traffic flow. The project also includes the construction of pedestrian paths with an area of ​​​​approximately 101,806 square meters, the use of smart infrastructure, and the establishment of service kiosks and modern restrooms, stimulating economic and commercial activity and enriching the urban experience for visitors and residents alike. Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, said, 'The Ruwi Commercial District Development Project is part of Muscat Governorate's strategy to develop commercial districts according to the highest approved standards. These development projects are in line with the Master Plan for Greater Muscat, which is one of the outcomes of the National Urban Development Strategy.' The Ruwi Business District Development Project is a pivotal step in Muscat Municipality's vision to transform commercial centers into vibrant, sustainable destinations that align with the development pillars of Muscat Governorate. The project is expected to contribute to enhancing the efficiency of infrastructure, improving the level of public services, enhancing the attractiveness of the region for investments, and maximizing commercial opportunities for local businesses, thus contributing to driving economic development.
