Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath Have Good News Ahead Of Final Show

Can't make it to Birmingham to see Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath's final performance? No problem. With Ozzy Osbourne on vocals, Tony Iommi on guitar, Geezer Butler on bass, and Bill Ward on drums, Black Sabbath became synonymous with heavy metal in the 1970s, with albums like Paranoid, Master of Reality, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. And when the band fired Ozzy in 1979, the singer launched a successful solo career (while the band released some good albums with Ronnie James Dio, Ian Gillan and more). And on July 5, those legendary careers come to a close with "Back to the Beginning," a massive event culminating in the final Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath performances ever. The lineup for the event features performances by Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Gojira, Mastodon, Alice In Chains and more. There will also be a "supergroup of musicians," including such stars as K.K. Downing of Judas Priest/KK Priest, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, Wolfgang Van Halen, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, and Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins. And you can watch it from the comfort of your home! While some fans will make the trek to Villa Park in Birmingham, England, to experience the show in person, the official Back To The Beginning website announced that you can watch the global all-day livestream. Access to the livestream will cost $29.99. You can also bundle the live stream with an exclusive "Back to the Beginning" t-shirt. The site notes that for Ozzy fans around the world to "experience this monumental event, the livestream will be delayed 2 hours from the in-arena start time. The stream will begin: 3:00 pm BST, 10:00 am EDT, 7:00 am PDT." Ozzy, who has battled health issues and Parkinson's Disease over the years, promises to give it "120%" in this final show. ‘I'll be there': Ozzy Osbourne insists he will perform final concert amid health doubts

Amid concerns about his health, Ozzy Osbourne has insisted he will perform in July at what is being billed as his final concert, fronting the original lineup of Black Sabbath. Speaking along with his bandmates to the Guardian's Alexis Petridis in an interview to be published on Friday, he said: 'I'll be there, and I'll do the best I can. So all I can do is turn up.' The concert, titled Back to the Beginning and held at the band's beloved Villa Park in Birmingham, features an all-star supporting lineup of metal greats including Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax. But this week, the frontman of another supporting act, Tool, voiced doubt about Osbourne's ability to perform. 'I'm cautious about saying, 'Yeah! All in, he's gonna do it',' Maynard James Keenan said. 'I don't know what kind of modern miracles we'll come up with to get him on stage to do the songs, but this is gonna be a challenge for them. So, I'm honoured to be a part of it, but I'm kinda preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best.' Osbourne has experienced an extraordinary run of back luck with his health in recent years, including a 2019 fall that exacerbated an earlier spinal injury, requiring numerous surgeries. He has also suffered pneumonia and a longstanding infection, and has been diagnosed with a form of Parkinson's. Speaking to the Guardian, he acknowledged the psychological toll: 'You wake up the next morning and find that something else has gone wrong. You begin to think this is never going to end.' He said the reunion concert was conceived by his wife, Sharon, as 'something to give me a reason to get up in the morning'. Back to the Beginning will reunite Osbourne with his original Black Sabbath bandmates for the first time in 20 years: guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward. After forming in 1968 in Birmingham, the almighty weight of their sound, topped with Osbourne's penetrating holler, ushered in an entire genre of heavy metal and resulted in classic albums such as Paranoid and Master of Reality. Osbourne left in 1979, then returned in 1997. The classic lineup played together until 2005, continuing without Ward for further tours and a final studio album, 2013's 13. Osbourne detailed his preparation for the reunion concert to the Guardian. 'I do weights, bike riding, I've got a guy living at my house who's working with me. It's tough – I've been laid up for such a long time. I've been lying on my back doing nothing and the first thing to go is your strength. It's like starting all over again. I've got a vocal coach coming round four days a week to keep my voice going. I have problems walking. I also get blood pressure issues, from blood clots on my legs. I'm used to doing two hours on stage, jumping and running around. I don't think I'll be doing much jumping or running around this time. I may be sitting down.' He said he won't be performing a full set. 'We're only playing a couple of songs each. I don't want people thinking 'we're getting ripped off', because it's just going to be … what's the word? … a sample, you're going to get a few songs each by Ozzy and Sabbath.' Elsewhere in the Guardian interview, the other band members speak about their own reasons for returning, and Sharon details her and Ozzy's plans for retirement. The concert, on 5 July, will raise funds for three charities: Cure Parkinson's, Birmingham Children's Hospital and the Birmingham-based Acorns Children's Hospice.

Ozzy Osbourne to reunite with Black Sabbath

The original line-up of heavy metal legends Black Sabbath will play together for the first time in 20 years at a one-off concert in Birmingham, England, this summer, organisers said on Wednesday, as reported by Reuters. The July 5 show at the birthplace of the band will feature Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward - the group that pioneered heavy metal music in the early 1970s with hits such as War Pigs, Paranoid and Iron Man. Since their last gig together in 2005, Black Sabbath have played in partial reunions but never in their original line-up. Black Sabbath, in what is being billed as their final show, will top a line-up of rock and heavy metal icons including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Lamb Of God and Anthrax at the Villa Park event. Profits from the show, called Back to the Beginning, will be donated to charities including Cure Parkinson's, organisers said. Osbourne, the group's charismatic frontman who left the band in 1979 due to drug and alcohol problems and went on to pursue a highly successful solo career, said in 2020 he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. "It's time for me to give back to the place where I was born," Osbourne, 76, said in a statement. "How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal." Tickets will go on sale on February 14. As per the Guardian, Black Sabbath have sold a reported 75 million albums worldwide and remain amongst the most influential heavy rock band in history. Their first eight albums featured Osbourne and included the UK No 1 Paranoid as well as classics such as Master of Reality and their 1970 self-titled debut.

Ozzy Osbourne to reunite with Black Sabbath bandmates in Birmingham for ‘greatest' show ever

LONDON — Ozzy Osbourne will reunite with all of the original members of Black Sabbath for the first time in 20 years, in a gig that will be his last and that's being billed as the 'greatest' heavy metal show ever, promoters said Wednesday. The band, one of the most influential of all heavy metal bands, will headline 'The Back to the Beginning' show on July 5 at Villa Park, home of the Aston Villa Football Club in Birmingham, England. 'It's my time to go back to the beginning … time for me to give back to the place where I was born,' Osbourne said in a statement. 'How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham forever.' Osbourne, who was the band's front man during its peak period in the 1970s and who was widely known as the 'Prince of Darkness,' will deliver his own short set before Sabbath bandmates, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, join him for the first time in two decades. The all-day event will also feature a host of major metal bands including Metallica, Slayer and Alice In Chains, with more names to be announced shortly. 'This will be the greatest heavy metal show ever,' music director Tom Morello said. In 2020, Osbourne revealed he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and he paused touring in 2023 after extensive spinal surgery. He has struggled with health issues since 2003 following a near-fatal quad bike crash, injuries that were aggravated in 2019 when he fell at home. Sabbath's story began in Birmingham in 1968 when the four original members were looking to escape a life of factory work. Their eponymous debut album in 1970 made the U.K. top 10 and paved the way for a string of hit albums, including 1971's 'Master of Reality' and 'Vol. 4' a year later. They went on to become one of the most influential and successful metal bands of all time, selling more than 75 million albums worldwide. Osbourne's fame expanded into the mainstream in the early 2000s, when he joined his wife Sharon Osbourne, and two of their children in the hugely successful MTV reality TV show 'The Osbournes.' All profits from the July 5 show will go to charities including Cure Parkinson's, Birmingham Children's Hospital and Acorn Children's Hospice, which is supported by Aston Villa. Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 14.
