2 Shore golfers qualify to play in next week's U.S. Open
Not one but two former Shore Conference high school golf stars have punched their tickets to the U.S. Open.
Middletown's Ryan McCormick, the Mater Dei Prep star who won a Big East title at St. John's, and Little Silver's Chris Gotterup, the former CBA standout who was Big Ten Player of the Year at Rutgers, excelled Monday, June 2 on Golf's Longest Day - the final round of U.S. Open qualifying.

McCormick earned medalist honors at the Maryland qualifier with a powerful 10-under day, beating the runner-up by five strokes by shooting a pair of 66 rounds.

Gotterup was closer to home at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit where he went 6-under (71-65).

This will be McCormick's U.S. Open debut. Gotterup also qualified in 2022.
The 125th U.S. Open is set for June 12–15 at Oakmont Country Club - the 10th time the major will be played at the Pennsylvania course.
