A celebration was held for Ruby Kee, a lifelong Troup resident, at the Troup City Library on Saturday. The event was well attended, consisting of members of Kee's family, friends and members of her church including her pastor.
Several testimonies about Kee's strong character and compassion were given by her family and friends. The common theme of each testimony was Kee's strong faith and love for God. Kee has been a faithful member of Matins Chapel for over 90 years.
During her celebration, Kee was presented with a Distinguished Service Award from Martins Chapel due to her spending the majority of her life selflessly serving the church and its members.
The pastor of Martins Chapel, David Baker, spoke about the impact Kee has had on the parish and its parishioners, as he reflected on the time when Kee used to invite members of the congregation over to her home for breakfast on Saturday mornings.
'It was a place of kindness and hope, and we always knew we were loved by Mrs. Ruby's house,' Baker said.
Baker also reminisced about how Kee's home became a place of comfort for people going through a challenging time.
'It went from being a family who could see Ruby to being a place where we would bring people into the community or into the church who needed love,' Baker said.

One of Kee's daughters, June Coleman, spoke about her parents' strong character and the inspiration she has been to her and the rest of the family.
'She loves deeply and has always been a woman of great faith. She is a humble lady and does a lot of things for a lot of people. Some don't even know she has done them,' Coleman said.
Coleman also spoke about the strong impact her mother had as she grew up.
'She's always made me want to be a better person and has always believed in me,' Coleman said.
When asked what was the key to living a happy and successful life, Key simply said, 'Live for the Lord.'
