Swanley couple meet paramedics who saved newborn son's life
A couple from Kent have introduced their four-month-old son to the "superhero" paramedics who saved his life when he suffered a cardiac arrest after his Webb, 33, and Matt Woolhouse, 35, from Swanley, took baby George to Dartford Ambulance Station to meet some of the team who helped him after he was starved of oxygen during the Wheeler, one of the ambulance crew who helped save George, said she was "over the moon" to be reunited with the Woolhouse said: "Thank you really doesn't feel enough."
He added: "It's hard to put into words how we feel as without you, we wouldn't be here with George today."Ms Webb said: "It was overwhelming to be able to meet everyone again and talk it all through, as it was a total whirlwind that afternoon."I can't thank them enough for everything they did for our family. They really are superheroes."
'Special reminder'
Paramedics became involved after Ms Webb, who gave birth to George at home on 25 January, suffered complications when his shoulder became later went into cardiac arrest after being "starved of oxygen" for seven minutes, South East Coast Ambulance Service said.A team of paramedics were able to restart his heart and after a 10 day stay in neonatal intensive care at Medway Maritime Hospital, George has gone on to make a good recovery.
Ms Wheeler said: "I was over the moon to be able to reunite with baby George, Charlotte and Matt."It made my week, and it was a really special reminder of the difference that we can make to our patients."George will now be monitored for two years to ensure there are no long-lasting complications.A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service said that just 12% of newborns survive cardiac arrest when born out of hospital.
