Italy celebrates Republic Day with various activities
ROME, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Italy on Monday marked the 79th anniversary of its founding as a republic, with President Sergio Mattarella calling for peace and international cooperation. The centerpiece of the day's activities was the traditional flyover by Air Force jets and a parade that passed the ancient Roman Forum. This year's celebration also featured a parachute display, during which parachutists released smoke in the colors of the Italian flag and unfurled giant banners as they descended. Mattarella was joined by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the presidents of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, numerous government ministers, and mayors representing hundreds of cities and towns across the country. To mark the holiday, museums and cultural landmarks offered free admission to the public.

Italian President Mattarella recovering after pacemaker implantation
Italian President Sergio Mattarella is said to be in a stable condition after receiving a pacemaker. According to sources close to him, the 83-year-old underwent planned surgery at the Santo Spirito hospital in Rome on Monday evening. It was initially unclear how long he would have to stay in hospital. Mattarella has been in office since February 2015, making him one of the longest-serving heads of state in Europe. He is the longest-serving president in his home country since the end of World War II. He is considered to have considerable moral authority across party lines. Italy has been ruled by a coalition of three far-right and conservative parties for two and a half years. Before becoming president, Sicilian-born Mattarella served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies for 25 years, originally for the Christian Democrats and later for the Social Democrats. He served as education minister in 1989 and 1990, and as defence minister from 1999 to 2001.

Seychelles: Accreditation of Ambassador Georges Tirant to Italy
The Seychelles' resident Ambassador in Paris, Mr. Georges Tirant, presented on Monday 7th April, his Letter of Credence to the President of the Italian Republic, His Excellency Sergio Mattarella, during a formal ceremony held at the Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome. During the ceremony, Ambassador Tirant conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of the President of Seychelles, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan, to President Mattarella. President Mattarella commended Seychelles for its worldwide rating on economic and political stability, good governance and anti-corruption policies. The Ambassador expressed Seychelles' commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendship, diplomatic relations, and cooperation between the two nations, including with its diaspora community in Italy. Discussions between Ambassador Tirant and President Mattarella focused on areas of mutual interest, including climate change, sustainable development, cultural exchanges, economic collaboration and maritime security. They reaffirmed their dedication to fostering peace, stability, and prosperity in their respective regions and globally. Ambassador Tirant highlighted Seychelles' pioneering efforts in promoting the Blue Economy and the Small Islands Developing States' vulnerabilities while emphasizing the importance of collaborating closer with the Republic of Italy in addressing collectively global challenges such as climate change and ocean conservation. The accreditation ceremony marks a significant milestone in the enduring partnership between Seychelles and Italy, underscoring both nations' shared values and aspirations. Seychelles established diplomatic relations with Italy on 29th June 1976. Charles and Camilla enjoy ceremonial welcome in Rome
The King and Queen received a ceremonial welcome full of pomp and pageantry hosted by the president of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, as their state visit began in earnest. Charles and Camilla were greeted by the statesman at his official residence, the Quirinale Palace in Rome, after their limousine was escorted into the palace quadrangle by mounted Corazzieri guards. Mr Mattarella was joined by his daughter Laura Mattarella, who acts in a first lady role as the president's wife died a number of years ago. The foursome stood still as they observed the British and Italian national anthems played by a military band. Nearby lined up along a red carpet stood a guard of honour formed of the Quirinale Band, troops from the Italian army, navy and air force, the Carabinieri and mounted Corazzieri guards. Charles, accompanied by the president, walked along the line casting an eye over the service personnel stood in three ranks and at one point paused to bow his head when he reached Italy's national flag held aloft. Mr Mattarella, a constitutional court judge and veteran centre-left politician, is a respected figure for his sober statesman-like qualities performing a role that puts him at the centre of Italian national life. He has served as president since being elected by Italy's parliament in 2015, succeeding Giorgio Napolitano. The group went inside, and before the president and the king sat down for talks, a demonstration of UK and Italian military co-operation was staged. From a balcony, they all watched a joint flypast over the capital by the Italian air force's aerobatic team, Frecce Tricolori, streaming Italy's national colours, and the RAF's Red Arrows who left red, white and blue smoke in their wake.

UK Royals meet Italy's President Mattarella at Quirinale Palace greeted by flyover of aerobatic jets

The royals will celebrate the cuisine of the region and meet with local farmers devastated by floods that recently hit the area.
