Georgia basketball transfer named as mid-major breakout
Former Georgia Bulldogs basketball transfer Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe has been names as a mid-major breakout in a recent ESPN article (subscription required). Moncrieffe spent two seasons at Georgia 2022-2024. In Moncrieffe's final season at Georgia, he struggled to earn playing time. Moncrieffe averaged just 1.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game across 16 appearances with Georgia in 2023-2024. He played just 8.6 minutes per game in the 2023-2024 season. Following the 2023-2024 college basketball season, Moncrieffe transferred to the Seattle University Redhawks. Moncrieffe has emerged as Seattle's leading scorer and rebounder. Moncrieffe has an expanded role for the Redhawks and plays 28.0 minutes per game. He is shooting an efficient 58.0% from the field. "After two seasons each at Oklahoma State and Georgia, where he was a serviceable role player, Moncrieffe has emerged as one of the best players in the WAC for Chris Victor. The 6-8 Canada native is averaging 14.8 points and 9.7 rebounds, with 10 double-doubles on the season," said ESPN's Jeff Borzello. Moncrieffe and Seattle are 10-15 this season, so he is unlikely to make the NCAA Tournament. Georgia on the other hand is on the bubble after a recent losing streak.
