Angels place 3B Yoan Moncada, RHP Robert Stephenson on IL
June 2 - The Los Angeles Angels placed third baseman Yoan Moncada and right-handed reliever Robert Stephenson on the injured list Monday in advance of a three-game road series against the Boston Red Sox. Moncada went on the 10-day injured list with inflammation in his right knee. The 30-year-old switch-hitter built a .237/.336/.505 slash line over 30 games with six home runs and 19 RBIs. Stephenson, who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list on Wednesday after recovering from Tommy John surgery, joined the 15-day IL (retroactive to Saturday) due to right biceps inflammation. The 32-year-old threw a perfect inning Wednesday in his 2025 season debut, but he was lifted from Friday's relief stint against the Cleveland Guardians after three pitches. In corresponding moves, the Angels elevated outfielder Matthew Lugo from Triple-A Salt Lake and left-hander Sam Aldegheri from Double-A Rocket City. Lugo, 24, made his big-league debut on May 9 and produced a .231 average with three homers and six RBIs during a 15-game stint that ended last week when Mike Trout was activated from the IL. Aldegheri, 23, returns to the majors for the first time since late last season, when he defeated the Texas Rangers on Sept. 6 to become the first Italian-born pitcher to win an MLB game since 1949. Aldegheri fashioned a 1-2 record with a 4.85 ERA in his three starts over 13 innings. This season at Rocket City, Aldegheri has made nine starts and produced a 2-2 record with a 4.34 ERA. He owns 48 strikeouts and 27 walks in 47 2/3 innings. --Field Level Media

Angels set to activate Mike Trout after nearly month-long absence with knee injury
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout will make his return from the injured list on Friday in Cleveland, a team confirmed to The Athletic. Trout has been out with a bone bruise in his left knee since May 1. Initially, Trout, 33, hoped to avoid the injured list. He later said he thought it was possible to be back after missing only the minimum of 10 days. However, he ended up missing nearly a month. He last played April 30, a game he departed after two at-bats. Advertisement Trout, who moved to right field before the start of the season, will resume his duties there. The Angels have struggled to find a consistent center fielder in his absence. The team optioned Matthew Lugo and Kyren Paris this week, and center field should be split between veteran utilityman Chris Taylor and outfielder Jo Adell. Trout hit .179 with nine homers and 18 RBIs in 29 games before the injury. He has just eight singles on the season, and was injured trying to leg out an infield hit — a decision he later acknowledged might have been a mistake. This is the fourth consecutive season that Trout has missed some significant time because of injury. He missed four and a half months in 2021 with a calf strain. In 2022, a back injury kept him out for a month. A broken hamate kept him out for the second half of the season in 2023. And last season, he missed five months, while needing two meniscus surgeries in the same left knee.

Clayton Kershaw struggles in return from multiple surgeries
Clayton Kershaw began his first start in eight months on a strong note. It got a bit worst after that. The longtime Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher made his season debut on Saturday after missing nearly two months rehabbing from multiple surgeries. Taking the mound against the Los Angeles Angels, he struck out leadoff hitter Zach Neto with his trademark slider. Clayton Kershaw strikes out the first batter he faces in his return to the mound! 👏#RivalryWeekend — MLB (@MLB) May 18, 2025 Then four of the next five Angels reached base, with Matthew Lugo capping off a three-run rally with an RBI double. Matthew Lugo has 5 XBH and 5 RBI through his first 8 career MLB games 💪 #RivalryWeekend — MLB (@MLB) May 18, 2025 Kershaw finished his night with five hits, five earned runs, three walks, two strikeouts and 83 pitches (48 strikes) in four innings. Per Baseball Savant, his four-seam fastball averaged 89.2 mph, topping out at 90.9 mph. During the offseason, Kershaw re-signed with the Dodgers on a one-year, $7.5 million deal after undergoing surgery on his foot and knee at the end of 2024. That 2024 season was abbreviated as well, as the southpaw missed the first half recovering from a shoulder surgery, then missed the last month of the regular season and the entire postseason with the foot issue. Not many teams would give that kind of money to a player who just hasn't been effective or healthy since the 2023 regular season, but that's the level of meaning Kershaw still holds for the Dodgers. With three members of their highly anticipated rotation — Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Roki Sasaki — already on the IL, they are certainly hoping he can at least be a consistent starting pitcher. Saturday wasn't the best start on that front, but that's probably not stopping them from giving significant time to get right.
