There's still plenty of motivation: Assistant coach Mott as Delhi Capitals look to end IPL 2025 on high

Jaipur (Rajasthan)[India], May 24 (ANI): Delhi Capitals will look to conclude IPL 2025 on a winning note as they take on Punjab Kings in their last match of the season at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on Saturday. Reflecting on the campaign, Delhi Capitals assistant coach Matthew Mott said, 'There's still plenty of motivation (to play this last game). Yes, we had a disappointing end to what was an encouraging campaign. We obviously came out of the box in the early stage, won a lot of games early, but the second half has been patchy. So, I think it's an opportunity for us to sign off on a positive note.' Talking about Axar Patel's availability, the 51-year-old said, 'The honest answer is I don't fully know. He's not training today. But, we'll find out when we get back there today. Obviously, he wasn't well the other day. He's had a pretty rugged time with a few different little niggle and injuries. I'm sure he's motivated to come out and play, but we'll probably know a little bit more tonight when we go back and see the medical stuff.' 'Samir (Rizvi) in the last game looked really good. Abhishek Porel has played some really good counter-punching knocks and probably his next step is turning them into match-winning contributions. But throughout our group is exciting and talented,' he further said. Mott lavished praise on Indian young talent and added, 'Someone like Vipraj (Nigam) who came under the radar this year right from the first match, played pivotal innings with the bat. I thought he was magnificent the other day when he came out and nearly turned the game. He's been entrusted with big overs, power play overs and crucial overs.' The Axar Patel-led side will leave no stone unturned to wrap the proceedings on a high. (ANI)

Players gutted after DC missed out on qualifying for playoffs: assistant coach Mott

Delhi Capitals (DC) will have to wait on skipper Axar Patel's recovery from illness ahead of the IPL 2025 encounter against the Punjab Kings, said assistant coach Matthew Mott. The all-rounder missed the side's 59-run loss to the Mumbai Indians, ending its hopes of making the top four, and has not fully recovered ahead of Saturday's contest here. 'He's (Axar) is not training today. I'm sure he's motivated to come out and play. But, we'll probably know a little bit more tonight when we go back and see the medical staff,' Mott said at the pre-match press conference. The Australian said the players and staff are gutted after failing to qualify for the Playoffs despite winning six of their opening eight encounters. 'We came out of the blocks hard and won a lot of games early. The second half has been very disappointing, a bit patchy and disjointed,' he said. 'Halfway through the tournament, we probably needed to win two more games to assure our spot in the final. We weren't good enough as a group to do that,' he added. The Kings, on the other hand, were given a major boost with skipper Shreyas Iyer passed fit to play after recovering from a finger injury, which saw him subbed out ahead of the second innings against the Rajasthan Royals. 'He's (Shreyas) recovered well. He had a good hit yesterday. He's a pretty tough character, and it'll be hard not to get him out there. He'll go back to his normal position at number three,' PBKS assistant coach Brad Haddin said.

Cup winning coach Mott to take charge of the Sixers

Matthew Mott will return to women's cricket, with Australia's World Cup winning coach to take charge of the Sydney Sixers. Mott was confirmed as the Sixers' new WBBL head coach on Friday, replacing Charlotte Edwards after she took the top job with England. The move will reunite Mott with the likes of Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner, who were all central to his success as Australia's coach. Mott's former vice-captain from his time in charge of the Australian team will also act as his boss, with Rachael Haynes the Sixers' general manager. "I'm absolutely delighted to be working with the Sixers women's team," Mott said. "I've had a strong connection with the club over many years, so when the opportunity came up, it was one I was really keen to take on. "Having coached a number of players in the current squad, I'm looking forward to reconnecting with them, as well as working with some of the younger talent." One of Australia's most successful coaches, Mott turned the national team into an all-conquering beast during his time in charge from 2015 to 2022. Under his guidance, Australia won two T20 World Cup and an ODI one, winning every trophy they contested between late 2017 and his exit. He left the role to take up his first full-time international job as head of England's men's team, and had immediate success in that year's T20 World Cup. But he was bundled out of the job last year, before becoming an assistant with the Sixers in the men's BBL. Mott will face a job to turn the Sixers back into a force in the WBBL, with the club having not won a tournament since 2017-18. The Sixers have reached the finals just once in the past six years, despite having some of the biggest names in the women's game at their disposal. "There are few coaches in world cricket who have achieved a similar track record of success and Motty has proven that he knows what it takes to build a strong, winning culture," Haynes said. "Motty was a fantastic addition to our men's coaching group last season, and we're really pleased that he will also continue in his role assisting the BBL side under the guidance of Greg Shipperd."
