CB Max Melton's 2024 season Melton played a lot but was not a starter. He played in all 17 games but was basically the Cardinals' fourth cornerback, using him in a three-man rotation on the boundary with Sean Murphy-Bunting and Star Thomas. He started three times. He had 51 total tackles, five pass breakups and a forced fumble in 565 defensive snaps. Max Melton's Year 2 outlook in 2025 Murphy-Bunting injured his knee in the offseason and is out for the year, so it would seem that Melton would slide into a starting role, playing opposite Thomas with Garrett Williams in the slot. But the Cardinals added Will Johnson in the second round of this year's draft, a player with elite talent, so Melton might be in the same boat last year. Advertisement At minimum, he will be in the rotation as the third boundary corner, playing as much as he did last season. At best, he will move into a full-time starting role, being the player on the field the most of the trio of him, Johnson and Thomas. The Arizona Cardinals are in offseason mode and we are days away from free agency and weeks from the NFL draft. Leading up to the new league year, we will take a look at each player on the roster or signed to a reserve deal and break down where they stand with the team. We will look at their 2024 season, their contract status and what their status is for the coming offseason and 2025 season. Next up is cornerback Max Melton. 2024 Max Melton stats, season A second-round pick last year, Melton showed growth and improvement throughout his rookie season. He played all 17 games with three starts and was on the field for 565 defensive snaps (52 percent) and 212 (49 percent) on special teams. Melton was productive in both facets of the game. He had 45 tackles (31 solo/two for loss), one forced fumble and five passes defensed. On special teams, he tied for the team lead with seven tackles (six solo). 2025 contract status In the second season of his four-year rookie contract, Melton's salary will be $1.199 million in 2025 with a cap charge of $2.02 million. Outlook for 2025 In a very competitive young cornerback room, Melton should be able to take another step this season and log more than the three starts he had as a rookie.
